Kate looked at the hall that was assigned to them on the Diamond floor. It was not at all as spacious as it was on the VIP floor.
None of them was working, instead they all were sitting there quietly. This floor was a lot noisier and less classy. People on this floor weren’t passing by without glancing inside the door. They wanted to see what was so special about these people that they were assigned to the VIP floor right after getting appointed.
"This is because of you," a man who was sitting near the door said loudly to Kate.
"Why?" Kate turned to him in anger, "Did I put a gun against your head? Stop blaming me for your failures." frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
"Then who should we hold responsible?" Shazma chimed in from the other corner, "It was you who had the desired documents for being our head. You were the most eligible one. Right? If you aren’t ready to take responsibility, then why were you dying to be our head and to lead us?"
Most of them were feeling insulted. Kate felt furious when found most of them nodded their heads, agreeing with Shazma.
"Nina and Valerie. They said, they are the owners," Kate made a feeble attempt to defend herself, "I didn’t know the owners were so..." she shrugged, not knowing what to say. She couldn’t come up with any excuse.
"Owners! Hah!" another employee chuckled sarcastically, "If they were owners, how did Marissa manage to issue pink cards to them?"
Kate sighed. She was getting tired of those attacks, "They are owners," she said, raising her finger, "if they aren’t, then how come they aren’t here, despite getting pink cards?"
They all got quiet after that.
"The thing is," a man in his late thirties offered his opinion, "We shouldn’t fight with each other. I think there is something fishy going on among the owners and we are collateral damage," He got to his feet wearily and scanned all the people sitting there, "We need to do something about it. Let’s accept we made a mistake and didn’t choose Marissa. I swear if she was here, she would have fought for us."
"But we are here because of her," Delinda interrupted with a bitter smile, "she is the one responsible for all this chaos in the office."
"No, Del," the man bobbed his head, "We can’t expect Marissa to favor us when we were showing her, our back. Let’s accept that Rafael Sinclair is an experienced businessman and a skilled boss. He knows, who he is hiring. He hired our head without looking at her degrees, and see? Today she stood with those five people who followed her. Now let me tell you what I’m going to do," he picked up his laptop bag and fixed its strap on my shoulder, "I’m requesting the receptionist to call Marissa here or let me go to her. I want to apologize to her."
Strange.
Nobody spoke against it. Nobody protested. Except Delinda who didn’t seem to like the idea. Her face was showing it.
When the man spoke his next words, his eyes were on Delinda’s face, "All those who aren’t interested in doing it. They can stay here. Because let’s accept it. None of the ’so-called’ Mrs. Sinclair is standing here for us," he even rolled his eyes at the mention of their names.
His words were again met with silence.
"So, you are suggesting," Kate said with a frustrated sigh, "You won’t take me as your head?"
Now most of them sitting there started shaking their heads in annoyance, "Kate! Your head is so deep in that ’in charge’ shit, that you’ve forgotten what your duties are as a damn head!"
A woman at the front of the room responded, "If you’re the head, Kate, then go and talk to the boss! Or do you just want a tag?"
Kate frowned, "Boss? You mean Mr. Sinclair?"
"Who else is the boss? Or do you think you are the boss?" the man who remarked now had a smug grin on his face as if he was making fun of Kate, "Just look at her. Even after getting humiliated, she wants to be the damn head! Fu*ck you, Kate!"
