Geena stood outside Rafael’s office, trying to gather enough courage to knock on the door. She bit her lip, as her hand hovered just inches away from knocking. She couldn’t find Dean on the floor otherwise she could have taken his help.
The good thing was that she saw Nina going out with Valerie; this was the golden chance to talk to Rafael.
She looked down at her hand holding the large Manila envelope with documents in it. The seconds felt like hours, and her nerves only worsened with every passing moment.
What if this is the wrong time?
What if he doesn’t like it and gets mad?
Just then a faint buzzing sound broke her thoughts, followed by a soft click. The door creaked open on its own.
Her eyes widened when she pushed the door a little and found Rafael Sinclair in his seat, with his fist under his chin, "What were you doing there? Waiting for a miracle to open the goddamn door?" his voice was dripping with sarcasm.
Ah! The glass walls of his office allowed him to see her, but she couldn’t see him.
She blinked, feeling the heat rising to her cheeks.
"I... I was... Dean is gone and..."
"Please come over," he gestured towards the seat and moved his laptop aside.
She headed to his desk and handed over the envelope, "I have submitted the check and all my documents. This is the final document that needs to be signed."
Rafael frowned regarding the document and Geena was aware of the reason, "I know Mr. Sinclair. I did mention to them that I was brought up in an orphanage. Still, they want a guardian name. I don’t have anyone. Maybe it’s because they want someone whom they can hold accountable if they aren’t getting semester fees. Ha-ha," she tried to laugh it off, but Rafael didn’t make an issue out of it.
"Fine! Collect your document tomorrow morning, Geena," it must be the first time he called her by her name.
She liked the sound of it from his mouth.
"Thank you, Mr. Sinclair," she left the seat and scurried to the door. Today, for some reason she felt less scared than before.
Nobody knew that under this gruff exterior was a good man who might not like it when people tried to get closer to him.
And for his wife? He was the most gentle and mushy person.
"Are you coming to the event?" Rafael asked her when she had placed her hand on the door handle to twist it.
She slowly turned and found him leaning over a file, "Umm. I don’t know. Nina didn’t tell me anything about it."
"Do come. Ask Dean to give one pass to you... and to your plus one, if you have any."
Geena tried to smile but failed miserably, "S-sure... sure, Mr. Sinclair."
