Aniya bolted up in her bed when someone attempted to turn the handle of her door. Must be her father because if it was Valerie she would have been screaming her name as well.
With sleepy eyes, she squinted at the timepiece. It read 2 am. The sound of the door echoed louder due to the silence in the house.
Thanks to Lisa who ordered a safety lock from an online company and gave it to her. It was supposed to be put under the doorknob. Lisa had instructed her to carry it with her in the bathroom too.
At least Aniya had gotten back her precious sleep due to it.
But now the way someone was trying to shake the door it seemed like he wanted to break in.
Aniya kept looking at the door, half expecting it to splinter and break off its hinges.
The only thing she was scared of, was her father’s intentions.
After a full minute of relentless torment, he finally seemed to give up. Aniya listened as his footsteps gradually faded into the distance.
The biggest thing in her favor was Valerie’s presence at home. Alaric couldn’t afford to let her know about it.
No matter how abusive he was towards Valerie, but he would definitely try to hide his bad intentions from her.
Aniya laid back on her bed and looked at the same ceiling that had been there with her for the last many years.
She didn’t even remember her childhood. There was no memory of the past, except some faces of random kids and a couple who sounded like husband and wife.
Those smiling faces were so embedded deep in her head that she almost thought those people were real.
A small boy who used to tell her that he would return to her. A man who had all the love on his face for her and used to call her princess.
Aniya didn’t know who those people were. She had told herself that they were some real people who once were a part of her life.
But if they really existed then where were they? Where could she find them?
How to look for them?

"So, your poopy father tried to break in," Lisa asked her while walking with her. Today she didn’t bother to bring her bike and now both of them were walking slowly after their late night shift ended.
"Thanks to your lock. It was a blessing ..." Aniya started rubbing her hands in the cold. Just this morning she had realized that it’s been some time since she last got her asthma attack.
"So back to those images you get... what do they look like? Don’t you remember if you saw them on a TV screen or ..." Lisa shrugged, "Maybe they came to the restaurant or your neighborhood..."
Aniya started shaking her head, "I’m sure they aren’t from here. I never watched them on TV. I don’t even remember my childhood but sometimes... sometimes I feel..." She stopped walking and had a dreamy look on her face.
"Well! I’m waiting Aniya," Lisa stood before her and waved a hand near her face. Aniya sighed and tightened her lips together into a thin line.
"Lisa... I don’t know why... but... I think..." Tears welled up in her eyes, "I think they are my parents."
A tear droplet glided down her cheek.

I was into the story but then the translator who was translating it for whatever language to English stopped translating half the words are half English and another language it's very hard to follow a book when you can't understand what the written word is translators need to do better...
