The lunch at Brander’s went well where Ariel was the one who did most of the talking.
George had been buried in work lately. Not only in work but in Anaya Jakes too, barely managing to make time for his childhood friend, but now, she was filling that space by talking about her friends and university.
Her voice bubbled up with excitement, every time she used to mention this specific handsome professor.
"You’re quite popular among my friends. They think you have turned colder, more ruthless... You talk less... you smile rarely," she told him, swirling the last sip of wine in her glass before taking a slow sip.
His tall frame was leaning back in his chair, all relaxed, staring at her lazily while holding a glass of wine in one hand. He studied her with an amused expression.
She wasn’t wrong, he had changed over the years. His close ones could feel how mature he had gotten. The edge of quiet authority hadn’t been there before.
"Don’t tell me that I still have to play your pretend boyfriend like you once made me do in school!" he gave a subtle shake to his head and Ariel burst into laughter.
"You still remember that? Oh, God! How my friends were shocked when you showed up at my school and impressed everyone including Angela. That was priceless! Ha-ha."
"How can I forget?" he exhaled a small laugh, "I still remember how Alex was fuming," he raised his shoulder, "he thought we were serious. In fact, he is still sure that we’re involved."
"Exactly. That’s why I keep telling everyone you’re my boyfriend," she giggled, teasing him.
"Yeah. Keep tarnishing my reputation," he muttered dryly.
Ariel was still laughing when he was paying the bill, "I miss your company, G!" she held his hand from across the table.
"I miss you too, girl!" he squeezed her hand in return, "I’m lucky to have a true friend like you in my life," he told her softly.
"Ahan!" she leaned forward and placed her palms on the table, "How about you tell me about this lucky girl then?" she said after shutting one eye, "The one who is going on a date with you. She is lucky!"
"No! I’m lucky!" he spoke before he could stop himself.

George couldn’t wait to meet Anaya. This evening when Ariel left, after having a good time with him, he excitedly returned to his apartment to get ready.
Tonight, he was planning to tell Anaya about his feelings. Now he was clear that she was the one for him.
Fu*ck with all the societal pressure to date or marry in the same class status. He wouldn’t let any silly thing come between them.
Abigail Sinclair was his past and Anaya Jakes was his present. Thinking of Abigail made him sad. The small stuffed toy was still sitting there in his bedroom and the bronze warrior that Anaya gifted him last night was just beside that teddy bear.
Anaya Jakes was funny, compassionate and...
And wild in bed! He thought with a smirk.
When he stepped out of the bathroom, towel drying his hair, his phone buzzed. He rushed to attend the call.
It was Paige.
What’s the need to call me when I was clear about my instructions?
"Sir. There is a meeting scheduled that requires your presence," she informed him.
Should I call Mrs. Eileen? No!
But not too long! He thought with a gentle smile.

I was into the story but then the translator who was translating it for whatever language to English stopped translating half the words are half English and another language it's very hard to follow a book when you can't understand what the written word is translators need to do better...
