Chapter 479: 479- Dizziness

Where is she? Is she safe? Why couldn’t the hotel provide CCTV footage?

All these questions were attacking George’s brain during a meeting with all the board members. His fingers were tapping the polished surface of the conference table, ignoring the discussion going on in the room.

"Sir! Mr. Donovan?"

George blinked.

Everyone was looking at him, waiting.

One of his senior executives repeated his question after a bit of hesitation, "Should we go ahead with the proposed partnership or wait for further evaluation?"

George could hardly process the question. He glanced at the screen and saw a bunch of projections, then he nodded absentmindedly, "Hmm. Do whatever works."

The people sitting there exchanged puzzled glances. The same senior executive cleared his throat, "B-but... but we need your approval on the final terms."

George pinched the bridge of his nose and exhaled sharply, "Fine," he snapped, "email me the details."

His response was met with an awkward silence, and then the meeting continued as one of them kept talking about the numbers flashing on the screen.

After fifteen minutes, as the discussion wrapped up, George pushed back his chair and stood up, "Thank you, everyone. Meeting adjourned."

He didn’t wait for them to leave and pulled out his phone. He felt his patience running thin. After a few rings, he heard Paige’s cheerful voice, "You called Mr. Donovan? Are you done with the meeting?"

George, who was entering his office, reached his seat taking long strides, and leaned back into his chair, "Come to my office, Ms. Fletcher. Now!"

He didn’t beat around the bush, "Paige Fletcher," he said, his voice calm, "As you didn’t come up with any convincing explanation about Anaya’s disappearance... so... I can no longer keep you here."

There was a long silence in the room. Paige wasn’t expecting this sudden decision from his side. She had thought that he had believed in her explanations.

Her lips parted while her eyes were wide in shock, "Are you firing me, Mr. Donovan?"

George didn’t even glance at her. His focus had already shifted to his laptop, "Maybe," he started typing something, keeping his tone dismissive, "Feel whatever you feel like."

Standing there, Paige felt her throat tightening, "B-but... I already told you that... I’m innocent... she... I swear ... she asked me to..."

"That’s all," he cut her off, still not looking up.

Paige swallowed hard, her fingers curling at her sides.

She never expected that.

She had thought that it would be best for her if she would conveniently get rid of Anaya. But no. She was wrong.

"Th...this office... It’s my bread and butter, sir," she tried to make him understand, struggling to hold back her tears.

And she was my life, Paige. He didn’t say that.

His days and nights were spent looking for her. He searched every airport, railway station, and hospital. But still, no luck.

Paige was still standing there speechless, in confusion. But George didn’t even acknowledge her presence.

His mind was only occupied by one name. Anaya.

I survived when Abigail Sinclair left. But I won’t be able to survive without you, Anaya.
