It was almost 6:00 p.m., and Avery was getting worried since she hadn't seen Nadine and Sean yet.
When Nadine's worried voice came through the phone, Avery felt a rare sense of comfort and tried to smile. "Avery, that jerk, Brad, took Sean away and left me on the side of the road. I don't know where to go."
Avery was Nadine's closest friend, someone she shared everything with. Even though they weren't related by blood, they were like real sisters. Nadine spoke to Avery about everything.
Sometimes, Nadine felt really lucky to have such a good friend. Without Avery, Nadine wasn't sure she could have gotten through those six lonely years.
Avery was really mad when she found out that Brad was causing trouble. She started yelling and cursing at him over the phone, which made Nadine laugh even though she was upset.
"Sweetie, with your way with words, you should be on TV. If you were, people would watch just to hear you talk!"
Hearing Nadine laugh made Avery feel a bit better. She spoke more gently. "Brad's just a jerk. He can't do much besides use Sean to mess with you.
"Honestly, don't go back tonight. Let's see what Brad can do. I'll call Sean and let him know what's going on. Maybe you two can come up with a plan."
Brad's threats involving Sean were getting out of control. It was time to show him that Nadine wasn't going to be easily pushed around.
Nadine felt better after talking to Avery. She realized Avery was right. She couldn't let Brad keep using Sean to control her forever. If things didn't change, she'd never be able to get a divorce.
Thanks to Avery's call, Nadine finally knew what to do. Instead of going back to Phoenix Villa, she decided to head to Rose Garden. She took a taxi there.
When Avery opened the door and felt how cold Nadine's hands were, she quickly pulled Nadine inside and turned on the heater.
