Chapter 14
He never thought Felicia would really leave him. He had that confidence.
But her recent behavior made him start to doubt.
Yet he quickly denied the thought.
If she truly wanted a divorce, she wouldn’t have come back to this apartment.
Deep down, she just wanted to force him to back down.
A loud voice interrupted the group, “Move, what are you doing here!”
Darrick found the group strange.
He was carrying a bag of supplements, all for Felicia.
He’d heard she had a useless husband and an unreliable maternal family.
They were the ones, right?
Darrick, wearing a mask, glanced at the crowd. “Hey, who are you looking for?”
Hearing this. Yvonne grew even angrier. First, her daughter–in–law embarrassed her and now an old stranger scolded him.
“Old man, who are you? I’m standing at my daughter–in–law’s door. What does this have to do with you?”
Darrick snorted. “You’re indeed Licia’s family.
“Since you say this is your daughter–in–law’s place, why don’t you have a
key““”
“Or,” he said in a mocking tone, “maybe your daughter–in–law thinks you’re too annoying and that’s why she won’t open the door for you!”
Yvonne’s chest tightened even more. “Old man, what exactly do you want?”
“What do I want? I want to ask what exactly you’re doing. Blocking someone’s door. You can’t get in, yet you claim to know the people inside. Watch out! I’ll call the police.”
Yvonne sneered. “Call the police? Old man, do you know who we are? Do you think you can call the police and chase us away? Go ahead and try. Let’s see if anyone will show up.”
Darrick couldn’t stand being provoked. His son was the head of the police department. It was the first time he heard someone say that the police wouldn’t show up.
He didn’t like being upset, and when he was, he let it out immediately. “Hey, son. I’m at Unit 1505, Building B, Springhill Estates. Yep, here. A few people are causing trouble, trying to break into a residence. They say they have connections in your department. They even threatened me, saying the police wouldn’t come. Oh, what were their names? Wait, let me ask.”
Darrick covered the phone and pointed at Yvonne. “You, what is your name again?”
Yvonne straightened her chest, “Yvonne Wade, and I’m now a Lucero.”
“Son, did you hear that? Yes, the woman’s name is Yvonne Wade, and the man’s surname is Lucero. Alright, you can send someone over now.‘
Yvonne sneered. She didn’t believe a single word the old man said.
Mabel looked at Seymour, who was lost in thought, and softly said, “Please don’t make trouble. We really know the one who lives here. The person inside is my sister.”
Darrick rolled his eyes, “You’re so annoying. Just stop pretending to be kind.”
Seymour finally snapped out of it, furrowing his brows. “Old man, this is my wife’s apartment. Could you please step aside?”
Darrick suddenly glared. “So, you’re her useless husband!”
He couldn’t be bothered to deal with these strange people, so he just pressed the doorbell. The intercom rang, “Hello, Felicia, it’s me. Open the door quickly!”
Everyone froze. So, this old man was here for Felicia?
Felicia’s calm voice came from inside, “Mr. Jackson, I’ll open the door in a minute. Hurry inside. Don’t let any outsiders mix in.”
Outsiders?
Who was the outsider?
“Alright, I won’t let any malicious people in!” Darrick said, giving another snort to the crowd behind him.
The door opened just a crack, and Darrick quickly slipped inside.
Then, with a loud bang, the door was slammed shut again.
Yvonne was stunned
“Mom, he really does know my sister.”
Seymour’s face darkened even more.
Outsiders? Everyone felt insulted.
