Chapter 15
Edwina forced a smile. “Sey, you’re generous. When Licia comes home, I’ll be sure to talk some sense into her.”
Mabel reluctantly followed her mother home. Before leaving, Sey didn’t say a single word to her.
That made Mabel incredibly uneasy.
She wished Felicia would never come back.
The thought flashed through her mind but quickly passed. It wouldn’t
come true.
Knowing Felicia well, Mabel didn’t think she would stay away for good.
No matter how tough Felicia acted now, Mabel believed it was just a strategy to gain sympathy.
During dinner, Ambrose had thrown tantrums at the home chef again.
But the moment he heard Seymour come in, he forgot about all the bad time he had just had. After all, he thought Seymour would bring his mom
back.
“Dad, is Mom behind you?”
With a tense face, Seymour glanced at the untouched food on the table. “Ambi, again?”
Ambrose pouted. “It didn’t taste good.”
Seymour clearly ran out of patience. “Go upstairs to the study and write
what I’ve told you before one hundred times. You’ll eat only after you’re done. Of course, you can choose not to do it. But you won’t get a single piece of bread until tomorrow. No snacks, either. ”
At first, Ambrose was determined to skip dinner. But once he heard that snacks would be off–limits too, he broke down.
“Dad, you’re mean!!
Yvonne gave Seymour a disapproving look. “Why are you yelling at him? Ambi, if you want to blame someone, blame your mom for sneaking out and refusing to come back and cook for you.”
Ambrose was dumbfounded. With teary eyes, he sniffled. “Mom doesn’t want to come back?”
“That’s right. Your mom took your sister out and doesn’t want to come back.”
“Hmph! Mom’s mean too!” After saying that, Ambrose ran straight to his room and locked the door behind him.
Seymour had a headache. He couldn’t help but rub his temples. “Mom, if you keep this up, you’ll spoil Ambi. He’s already way too coddled by you.”
Yvonne had been holding back her frustration these days. Now it finally
burst out
“How is this my fault? Is it wrong to dote on my grandson? Seymour, it’s your wife who’s upsetting you, yet here you are lecturing your own mother. Fine, from now on, I won’t care anymore.”
Yvonne stomped up to the second floor and slammed the door shut.
A wave of helplessness welled up in Seymour’s heart.
What was going on? His wife, his son, and even his mom were off.
Everything was falling apart.
“Licia. how did you end up marrying that guy?” Darrick said irritably.
He was being polite. What he really wanted to ask was how she could be so blind as to fall for some scum like that.
A bitter smile appeared on Felicia’s lips.
“Mr. Jackson, it’s just that he doesn’t love me.”
He treated Mabel well, so doting and so considerate.
But that was never meant for her.
The opposite of love wasn’t hatred. It was indifference, distance, and rejection instead.
Darrick sighed silently. If he’d known it would turn out like this, he would’ve done everything to pair Licia with his own grandson.
At least then, she wouldn’t be bullied for no reason.
“Come, give me your hand. Let me check your pulse.”
Felicia reluctantly held out her hand. “I already checked it myself.”
“So what? Did you forget that a doctor can’t treat herself?”
Darrick frowned slightly, placing three fingers on her wrist. He closed his eyes and quietly took her pulse.
“Your body’s weak. You need to nourish yourself. There’s something wrong with your liver? How come at this age?”
