Chapter 16
That childish voice was filled with unhappiness.
Felicia took a deep breath. “Ambi, you know Mommy just had your baby sister a few days ago, right? Other than the first night, did you even come to the hospital to visit me?”
Ambrose pouted, stunned by the question. “But Mommy, you’ve already been discharged. You can even go out and have fun now. Do I still need to visit you?”
“What about Auntie Mabel? Do you think her injury is more severe than mine? So it’s okay to happily take photos with Auntie Mabel but not even come to the hospital to visit me once?”
“Auntie Mabel…” Ambrose hesitated. “But Mommy, Auntie Mabel is afraid of pain. She cries whenever something hurts.”
That was cruel. The crybabies always got the candies.
“And what about Mommy? Do you think Mommy doesn’t cry when I’m in pain?”
Felicia rarely shed tears in front of him, so Ambrose naturally assumed she never cried.
Only when she was jealous of Auntie Mabel would she pretend to wipe her eyes.
“Ambi, I have feelings, too. If you ignore me for too long, it hurts. I need to rest well now during my confinement and take care of your little sister Mina. So from now on, the home chef will cook you food.”
Ambrose felt as if his world had tumbled down.
His lips trembled, and tears welled up in his eyes. “Mommy, y–you don’t want Ambi anymore?”
Felicia smiled gently. “Ambi, it was you all who didn’t want me.”
As early as the day she gave birth, they had already made their choice. They chose Mabel over her.
Ambrose hung up the phone, and his sorrow quickly turned into anger and jealousy. Why had his mother become so cruel toward him after his sister was born?
His mother had never said anything so cold before. It must be his sister’s fault.
Whoever’s fault it was, Ambrose never thought it was his fault.
He didn’t dare to ignore Seymour’s words. Felicia only scolded him yet when Seymour was angry, he would really punish him.
He felt wronged as he wrote down the sentences while shedding tears.
Seymour tugged at his tie and returned to the bedroom. He saw the photo frame on the bedside table, with Felicia holding the three–year–old Ambi, and himself in the picture.
This was probably the only family photo they had.
He picked up the frame, lost in thought.
Seymour’s father had died in a car accident when he was ten. His grandfather was still healthy at that time, holding onto the Lucero family, but the Lucero Group had already been in decline.
His grandfather had always warned him that he was the only hope of the
Lucero family. If he couldn’t restore the Lucero family’s name, no one would remember them.
As a child, he had been lazy and carefree, but he then changed. He gradually became ambitious, aiming for first place in school.
He had no interest in the hobbies of his peers. The only thing that mattered to him was the Lucero family.
Finally, when he returned from studying abroad at 22, he successfully took over the Lucero Group from his grandfather, becoming the sole leader of the family business.
In just five years, the Lucero Group had once again returned to the center of the business world.
For him, he never had any illusions about marriage. It was meant for the sake of the family.
He never had any expectations regarding his wife. His only requirement was that she be decent and gentle.
The Pruitt family and the Lucero family had a good relationship, and his grandfather liked Felicia. So, it was only natural that he married Felicia. They got engaged and got married. They then had Ambi.
