As the sexy version of Ellora bowed before them revealing a second majestic view of the great mountains, the three activated the tokens and left the small shop. The very next moment, they appeared in the dilapidated underground tunnel that led to the deserted blood hall, the main base of the vampires in and around this area.
Damon couldn’t help but wonder if Varnyx would react the same way to Mark and Kate. His question was answered when the old vampire revealed a visibly shocked expression and bowed to the both of them.
"My Lady and my Lord, please forgive this old man for the blood hall’s desolate appearance. Welcome to our humble abode," Varnyx intoned reverently, his deep voice echoing off the cracked stone walls. He lowered himself to one knee, crimson cloak pooling around him like a shadow. "We had not anticipated your descent this soon. The blood stirs, and the sanctum responds."
Kate blinked. "Uh... hi?"
Mark just smiled awkwardly.
Damon shook his head. These two need to learn a lot. Unlike them, he knew how exactly to take advantage of situations. "Lord Varnyx, I met these two newly awakened bloodlings wandering about. They seem to lack the memory of their origin. Perhaps there is some way you can help them to become stronger and reclaim their place in the dark faction."
Varnyx’s gaze sharpened with sudden understanding. "Ah... so they are not merely of the blood, but of the old blood, unaware of their calling." He rose slowly, reverence in every motion. "Then it is my honor... no, my duty, to serve."
Varnyx gestured to the hallway beyond, where the darkness now parted in slow, swirling tendrils. "There is a trial chamber below the sanctum. It was once used to awaken fledgling nobles. If they survive the trial... the blood reveals their path."
"’If’ they survive?" Mark asked, raising a brow.
Varnyx’s smile was gentle... and just a little terrifying. "Growth demands risk, young lord. But fear not. You shall not face it alone."
"Oh? That’s good. Looks like you will have some help." Damon nodded.
But the next second, Varnyx simple added. "I meant your God’s blessing will always be with you."
Damon’s face twitched. "I guess you are screwed then." He smiled bitterly. "These trials are usually tough. Just do your best. No need to risk anything. Especially Kate."
"Yes, Master." Kate playfully winked but Damon quickly grabbed her and looked at her pointedly. "Listen to me, I am not joking. Your condition is weird. I don’t know what’s happening to your body in the real world. So don’t unnecessarily take any risks."
"Geez. Okay. I know, you dummy. I am just playing with you."
"Kate."
"Ok. No more playing. I will listen to you, alright." She pouted.
Varnyx cleared his throat awkwardly. "If my Lordship and my Ladyship would follow me." He led them both further underground and when Damon tried to follow, he quickly turned to give a sharp glance.
"I guess I am not welcome there." Damon chuckled awkwardly. He watched the three of them disappear and then decided to get back to his business. There was a lot that needed to be done and he did not plan on babysitting Mark and Kate forever.
That would only be detrimental to their growth. He helped them get a foothold in the game and now it was upto them to carve out their own path, just like he had.
Damon turned back toward the main blood hall chamber. The small orb on the altar was still glowing faintly. He placed his hand on it and immediately the system panel popped up. Thanks to Blood Wraith he had more than enough money to contribute to the rebuild.
