Rowan then turned to Oriana, whom he had yet to greet. "Greetings, Your Highness."
Oriana nodded. "I have heard about you from Arlan. You three brothers are so brave, no wonder Erin is the same."
"Thank you for the compliment, Your Highness. I agree, our sister is one of a kind. We brothers admire her a lot."
Arlan’s gaze shifted to Rafal, raising a brow. Rafal sighed inwardly, standing quietly. Arlan’s expression made it clear to him that he would be questioned later. Rafal knew it well that nothing escaped his liege’s gaze.
Soon, everything was prepared, and the entourage was ready to leave. Arlan and Oriana returned to their residences, while the two Ahren brothers asked to take Rafal away for a while. The three of them left the palace to return to the Ahrens.
They headed to Rowan’s residence, where, upon entering the drawing room, Rowan slumped on the sofa and frowned.
"That man is a blockhead, I’m telling you two."
Euron and Rafal sat on the chairs, nodding in agreement.
"At the mention of Erin, he didn’t react at all, as if he doesn’t even know who she is," Rowan continued, frustration evident. "Our sister has fallen for the wrong man."
"He’s always like that," Rafal said. "I’ve always seen him like that, and it’s rare to see him react to anything. Maybe it’s just his personality."
"When a man likes a certain woman, even the mention of her name can bring some emotional change in them. But I saw nothing. You know my eyes never miss anything."
"I noticed it too," Euron added, looking disappointed. "He didn’t react even when Erin’s name was mentioned several times."
There was a moment of silence as none of them spoke.
"Until now, I thought there was no man who wouldn’t be moved by our sister, especially someone who has spent days around her. If Lucian feels nothing for her, I wonder how exactly our sister treated him to not be moved by her," Rowan mused. "Have we turned our sister so fearless and dominant that men don’t find her appealing and prefer staying away from her? Is it our mistake that she is suffering a heartache?"
"Don’t say things like that," Euron warned. "Just accept that Lucian lacks a brain. I see no lacking in our sister. She is a perfect woman."
"Aaron is a good man for her as well," Rafal added. "I wouldn’t mind if she married Aaron. He would be a good husband to her. He is a patient and responsible man. He would understand Erin well. It will take a time for her to get over Lucian, but I am sure with Aaron by her side, she would move on soon."
"Do you think I don’t know that?" Rowan asked. "It’s just that our sister has fallen for Lucian, and I wish she could be with the one she loves. I want her to have a marriage full of love, with a man she loves from her heart. I don’t want her to just go along with what we, her family, arrange for her and then she has to adjust accordingly to fulfil her responsibilities."
"We can’t force someone to like a particular person. There is nothing we can do," Euron said, to which Rafal nodded in agreement.
"There is something we can do, or rather, something I want to do," Rowan said, his gaze turning dark.
"What do you mean?" Euron asked.
"I will make Lucian regret rejecting our sister. And when he does, I will make him watch as our sister marries someone else, has kids, and builds a happy family. I will make him regret his entire life."
"I just said we can’t force anyone to have feelings," Euron repeated.
"Let’s try. If that blockhead still remains the same, then he can go to hell and live a lonely, boring life," Rowan added. "Once Aaron is settled in the northeast, I am going there with Erin."
"You are not," Euron warned. "I will go with her. I don’t want you doing something that would end up hurting our sister."
"I won’t—"
"As your elder brother, it’s my order," Euron’s voice was strict.
"Alright," Rowan replied, but Euron looked at him suspiciously.
This brother of his was willful and never to be trusted when he had a plan in mind. Rafal, on the other hand, was someone he never had to worry about.
"Will we ever return here again?" Rina asked, "Northeast is far, isn’t it." freēwēbηovel.c૦m
