Chapter 168
“Your Highness, we’ve confirmed that only Ms. Yates entered the Stone Forest on accompanied her,” Keaton reported.
When Keaton returned with the news, Malik was practicing his spear.
Vrahmont Mount that day… Wait, correction, her maid, Monica,
As usual, Malik had Gail stand a short distance away, holding a stack of sheer silk. With a single thrust of his spear, he sliced the silk apart instantly.
Gail counted the layers, and his eyes lit up with excitement. He exclaimed, “Your Highness, that’s eight layers, exactly eight! You’ve finally done it!”
He looked thrilled, and he had every reason to be so.
For several days now, ever since Malik had recovered enough to get out of bed, he’d been dragging Gail along to practice this particular skilt nonstop.
For three whole days, alt he did was practice his spear.
After all, he was now in Novigrad and didn’t have to fulfill his royal duties. He had all the time in the world.
But Gail was having a tough time accompanying him.
Every thrust of Malik’s spear carried an icy chill. Malik felt nothing himself, but Gail, whose internal strength paled in comparison, felt like he was about to freeze to death.
‘Eight layers, no more, no less. Does that finally count as perfect success?‘ Gail wondered.
“Your Highness, look! Eight layers. I swear I’m not lying!” Gail exclaimed, quickly presenting the layers of sheer silk to Malik.
Malik’s eyes briefly lit up with surprise, but in the next instant, his expression darkened.
It was because there was still a tiny tear on the ninth layer.
Though the tear was small, the force of his strike had still reached the ninth layer.
Gail immediately recognized what was bothering him and hurriedly said, “Your Highness, it’s already amazing that you managed to cut through eight layers. Even Prince Leon might not be able to do it.”
“Of course, he can do it,” Malik sneered coldly, thinking, ‘Just thinking about that bastard made me itch to give the guy a couple of kicks.‘
“Jessica can do it,” Malik added.
Gail broke out in a cold sweat and quickly tried to reassure Malik, “Your Highness, it’s just a matter of finesse, not some extraordinary fighting skill. The fact that a young girl like Jessica is more nimble than men is nothing unusual.”
“Since you said so, why don’t you have Elsie come and show me how to do it?” Malik sneered.
Gail immediately shut up not daring to utter a single sound.
Gail thought, ‘If I bring Princess Elsie here for spear practice, she’ll kill me.’
Malik was a little crestfallen as he thought, ‘Three days have passed, yet I still can’t master it. How the hell did Jessica pull this off?‘
Malik turned to Keaton and asked, “What did you just say? Did Jessica venture into the Stone Forest alone to rescue Waldo?” As for Monica, she seemed to make no difference whether she was there, so people ignored her.
Keaton nodded. “Yes, Ms. Yates left Garbisch’s troops and rushed to the Stone Forest to rescue Waldo. She was probably burning with anxiety over Prince Waldo, too worried to wait for the others.”

“So devoted and affectionate?” Malik narrowed his eyes, a teasing smirk tugging at his lips. “Has Prince Lean still not returned to Capitalia?”
“He should be back before the Autumn Hunt,” Keaton replied. Earlier, there was a bandit uprising in Wasmares, and Leon led a hundred elite soldiers to suppress it. That was why he wasn’t in Capitalia when Waldo sent troops to quell the rebellion.
