After Priscilla was beaten that day, Waldo was indeed furious.
But when he visited the Yates family, he faced an even greater injustice. When he returned, he found himself thinking again about Priscilla’s straightforward and innocent nature. Eventually, the two of them made up.
At this point, Waldo didn’t want to cause any more trouble, so he explained, “It’s just people spreading rumors. Only fools would believe them. You don’t believe that nonsense, do you?”
Priscilla glared at him.
Waldo sighed. “There are too many people in the palace, and gossip is unavoidable. Let’s talk about it later when we’re back.”
Priscilla was about to complain, but she noticed the palace was becoming increasingly crowded. Soon enough, she could feel numerous unfriendly gazes
directed at her.
“My second and third brothers have arrived. I’ll go greet them. A palace maid will show you to your seat. If you’re not sure where to go, just tell them you’re from the Waldo House. They’ll take care of you.”
This was Priscilla’s first time attending a palace banquet.
Though the world outside was still suffering from constant wars and hardship, the powerful nation of Novigrad had maintained a prosperous capital.
The imperial palace was the height of luxury. Everywhere she looked, there was gold, jewel, and glittering decoration. The opulence was overwhelming, and Priscilla couldn’t help but feel her eyes widen in amazement.
As a member of the Waldo House, the palace maids treated her with the utmost respect.
However, tonight’s guests were either royals or high–ranking officials. The young men and women in attendance looked at Priscilla with clear disdain.
Her martial skills weren’t bad, and although the voices around her were hushed, her sharp hearing caught every word.
“So this is the woman who made Prince Waldo abandon Ms. Yates of the Yates family?”
“Look at her. She’s so dark and dirty, nowhere near as delicate as Jessica.”
“You’re right! Even my servants are prettier than her.”
“Actually, she reminds me of my two kitchen girls.”
“Look at her hands–she looks like someone who does all the hard work. She’s hideous!”
“And then you look at Jessica… She’s so beautiful that even I, a woman, feel envious. Her skin is so soft, so flawless–it’s a beauty none of us could ever achieve. I don’t understand why Prince Waldo would give up someone like Jessica for this ugly woman.”
As they spoke, their eyes inevitably drifted toward Jessica sitting across the room.
Priscilla, already boiling with anger, couldn’t help but glance at Jessica.
At that moment, Jessica sat at her seat, a soft evening breeze brushing a lock of hair from her face. The delicate strands framed her flawless features, adding to her ethereal beauty. She looked like a painting straight from a dream.
The more Priscilla looked, the angrier she became.
Priscilla wasn’t unattractive. It was just that after years in the desert, her skin wasn’t as fair and delicate as the women in Capitalia. She wondered, ‘What is so ugly about me? I have once been the most beautiful woman in the desert!‘

The whispers continued.
know why Prince Waldo doesn’t want Jessica.”
“Why?”
“Don’t you know? It’s said that Jessica has been with Prince Waldo for years, sleeping in his tent every night… I can’t even say the rest, but you get the
idea.
“After all these years, Prince Waldo must be tired of her. She’s probably lost her charm.”
“As for that wild woman, well, she’s a novelty. How long do you think she’ll last in the mansion?”
