"Alright, ma'am. Please keep your receipt. If there's any issue with the bag, feel free to contact us anytime," the sales assistant said.
"Hmm," Chione replied.
"Would you like me to wrap it up for you?"
Once again, Chione only grunted in response. She felt distressed knowing she'd spent over 40 thousand dollars on her card.
The sales assistant was still wrapping the bag when Chione's phone began ringing loudly, echoing through the store. As she retrieved her phone and looked at the screen, a jolt of fear coursed through her. It was a call from her mother.
She intended to put her phone on silent, but once the ringtone began blaring, it was too late to switch to silent mode. Ultimately, the only way to end the incessant ringing was to pick up the call.
"Hello..."
"Are you out of your mind? How could you buy a bag that costs over 40 thousand dollars? Do you have any idea how hard your dad and I work to earn money? How can you just blow that much all at once? Go return that stupid bag right now!"
"Got it."
Chione ended the call quickly. She had been planning to use her mother as an excuse to back out of the purchase. Even though the money had already been charged, she hadn't walked out with the bag yet. Maybe she could still return it.
She was trying to psych herself up when Samantha spoke up first. "If you really think it's too expensive and don't want it, just return it."
Layla chimed in. "Exactly! If you can't afford it, don't buy it. There's no point in getting yelled at by your mom when you get home. Haha."
Chione felt even more provoked, her face turning ashen.
She always valued her pride more than anything. Hence, she held back her words about returning the bag. "Are you kidding? I've paid for it. Of course I'm keeping it."
The sales assistant kindly reminded her, "Ma'am, make sure you don't remove the tag when you get home."
"Why not?"
"Once the tag's off, you won't be able to return it." The sales assistant gave her a perfect smile.
