There was something different about Ethan's presence. It was clear at a glance he wasn't just some average guy.
"Layla, why do you get to be so lucky? We came from the same place, so why do you get to live better than me?" Xenia scoffed. "Your boyfriend looks way too polished!"
She burst into loud laughter, and no one had a clue what was so amusing to her.
…
Simon had just dealt with a woman when he looked up and saw Ethan carrying Layla down the stairs in a bridal carry.
He spluttered. He had known Ethan for a while, but he couldn't connect the man in front of him with the serious, by-the-book Ethan he was used to.
Was that really Ethan Reed?
Simon got a little too excited and ended up spitting his drink right into the woman's face. It was beyond awkward.
The woman was rendered speechless from shock.
Simon could feel her murderous glare. It was as if she was saying, "What the hell is wrong with you? Who do you think you are? I just asked for your Instagram handle, and now you're acting like you're all that?"
He froze for a moment.
Wait! When she asked for his Instagram earlier, she seemed all shy and quiet, with her cheeks flushing red. He had even wondered how someone that reserved had worked up the courage.
Looking back now, maybe he had misjudged her.
"I'm so, so sorry. I really didn't mean to—"
Simon was about to explain when he noticed Ethan moving quickly with Layla in his arms. The two were almost at the nightclub's exit, and Simon quickly pulled out his phone and snapped a photo of them.
