Worry and guilt immediately clouded Kevin's eyes. "I'm really sorry. I had no idea the keychain bug someone forced on me had a listening device hidden inside.

"I was just as shocked when I found out. If you're okay with it, I'd like to cover your private room charges for tonight. Consider it my apology."

His explanation wasn't much different from Leonardo's.

Samantha watched Kevin closely. As he spoke, his gaze remained steady and sincere. He didn't flinch or avoid her gaze.

For a second—just a split second—she almost believed him.

Leonardo replied coldly, "Mom, getting someone fired is not so different from killing their family. That job was her life."

There was a strange logic to it.

Laura was never one to admit fault, though. "She brought this on herself! I didn't force her to do anything. And seriously, you're going to turn against your own mother over that woman? Over Samantha?"

"Yes," he replied.

"I'm your mother!"
