Chapter 350: He’s Not Worthy

The male doctor finished speaking and looked at Selina smugly.

"Dr. Butler, what are you talking about?" a nurse said with a hand over her mouth, giggling. "Mr. Reid doesn’t have time to take Mrs. Reid’s calls right now."

"Mr. Reid’s busy looking after Miss Angelica. He doesn’t have time to deal with people who don’t matter."

Dr. Butler put on a falsely generous smile. "Now, now, that’s not the right way to say it. Who knows? Mrs. Reid came all the way here in the middle of the night. If she leaves without even seeing Mr. Reid, won’t that look bad? We should at least give her a chance."

Then, with a rehearsed, fake-kindness expression, he added, "Mrs. Reid, don’t mind what she said. Even if Mr. Reid is focused on Miss Angelica, I’m sure he’d still take a minute to answer your call. Miss Angelica may be important, but you are Mrs. Reid."

"Who knows? Maybe you still hold a special place in his heart."

Selina wasn’t stupid—she could hear the sarcasm and condescension loud and clear.

"Dr. Butler, may I ask—are you Angelica’s attending physician?"

There was a momentary pause in Dr. Butler’s expression. He definitely wasn’t, but he couldn’t admit that, so he nodded. "Is there something you’d like to ask, Mrs. Reid?"

"What illness is Angelica being treated for?"

Dr. Butler quickly launched into a scripted response. "Miss Angelica was experiencing abdominal discomfort. Everyone in the Reid Family is understandably concerned about her and the baby."

"Then why," Selina asked, feigning concern, "are you out here chatting with me instead of inside tending to her?"

Her eyes widened in mock alarm. "You’re the doctor, yet you’re letting Logan stay with the patient? Logan isn’t a physician. What if something happens to Angelica? Will you take responsibility? I always thought the doctors at BH Hospital were committed and professional, but now I’m not so sure..."

"You—!" Dr. Butler’s voice caught in his throat.

"Mrs. Reid, clearly you don’t understand," he said stiffly. "Miss Angelica is no longer in danger. What matters most for a pregnant woman now is her emotional well-being. That’s why the baby’s father should be the one keeping her company."

"My advice? Go home. Mr. Reid’s busy. He doesn’t have time to deal with unreasonable women."

Then, with his nose in the air, he ordered the guards, "What are you waiting for? Don’t let Mrs. Reid disturb the patient’s rest!"

The guards moved in without hesitation, trying to push Selina out. She sidestepped nimbly, letting one of the guards slam straight into Dr. Butler. With a loud thud, he lost balance and fell flat on the floor.

"You—Selina! How dare you dodge?!"

Dr. Butler was furious. He was one of BH Hospital’s leading doctors—people begged him to perform surgery—and now this?

His face was red with anger, and just as he was about to lash out, someone stepped out of the hospital room.

Dr. Butler’s eyes darted toward the figure, and in an instant, his entire demeanor shifted. He scrambled to his feet, looking flustered but humble, and quickly tried to salvage the situation.

"Mrs. Reid, I was wrong to stop you, but you can’t say I lack medical ethics. I’ve worked at BH Hospital with a clear conscience. I may not be a saint, but I’m no quack either. What you said just now... was a little much."

Selina narrowed her eyes and looked down. "Dr. Butler, your fall had nothing to do with me."

"No, no, of course not—but... Mr. Reid?!"

Selina looked up, her lips tight.

It really was Angelica’s room, and Butler had just come out of it. So Logan had come to see her?

Logan spotted Selina right away, clearly surprised. He walked over quickly.

"What’s going on?"

Dr. Butler quickly shook his head and jumped in first. "Mr. Reid, it’s nothing. I’m getting old—I don’t want to argue with a young woman. But I do have to say, it’s good for Mrs. Reid to be spirited at her age, but it doesn’t mean she should be disrespectful to everyone. I’m a doctor. I may not take it personally, but that doesn’t mean others won’t."
