BH Hospital was massive, and after walking around for ages, Selina still hadn’t found the parking lot. Instead, she ended up lost in a garden. freewёbnoνel.com
It was late at night, with only a few dim streetlights flickering around. Frustrated, she sat down on a stone step and sulked.
The February night was bitterly cold. She’d left the house in a hurry and only thrown on a thin jacket. Now the wind cut straight through her, and she shivered.
But the thought of Logan sent another wave of frustration burning through her. She’d even bought him a gift—what was she thinking?
Selina kicked a stone on the ground hard, eyes stinging.
All these years, her focus had never changed. She wanted Angelica to be ruined, she wanted the truth from four years ago to come out. She’d endured assassination attempts, slander, and betrayal.
All of it had been far worse than tonight. So why was she feeling so crushed now? So irrationally upset?
Unable to answer her own question, she kicked another stone.
This time, it didn’t roll into the flowerbed like she expected. Instead, it hit a pair of polished, hand-stitched leather shoes.
Selina froze at the sight of those shoes. She looked up—then immediately got to her feet and turned to walk away, not saying a word.
Logan stepped forward, holding up the belt. "Is this a present from a certain someone?"
Selina said nothing, head down, barreling forward without looking.
She was headed straight toward the lake. Just before she stepped in, Logan pulled her into his arms, sighing softly. "It was my fault earlier. Want to tell me what happened with Dr. Butler?"
Selina’s lips pressed tight, her eyes burning with stubborn pride. "Don’t touch me!"
Her hair whipped in the wind, sticking to her cheeks. She looked like a small, defiant animal, trembling as it tried to protect itself.
Logan’s fingers gently brushed her eyelid. "If I made you cry, then Dr. Butler must’ve really crossed a line."
Selina finally snapped. "Didn’t you just apologize on my behalf? I don’t want to apologize to him! Give me back the gift!"
She grabbed the belt and yanked, but it wouldn’t budge. Her face flushed red with frustration. "Let go! You dug it out of the trash. Don’t you think it’s dirty?"
"So it really was a gift from you," Logan said, sitting down on a stone bench and pulling her firmly into his lap.
Selina stumbled and found herself locked in his embrace. Fuming, she snapped sarcastically, "Weren’t you supposed to be with Angelica? I’m sure you’re both exhausted. Why not get some rest?"
Logan’s eyes darkened, his voice rough. "Did Dr. Butler say that to you?"
In that moment, everything clicked.
He suddenly understood the full scope of Selina’s anger—Butler must have misled her. She must’ve believed Logan had been spending the night with Angelica.
And worse, she probably thought Dr. Butler had saved Angelica’s life.
"Dr. Butler said something, yes. But it’s not just that—everyone online knows."
Selina lifted her chin haughtily. "Dr. Butler said no one without an appointment could enter the ward, to protect Angelica’s rest. And Mr. Reid, conveniently, wasn’t answering his phone."
Not answering her calls?
Logan pulled out his phone, only to see it cracked, the screen dead. It must’ve been damaged during the explosion—no wonder he hadn’t received any of her calls.
Selina’s frustration flared again. She stood up with a sharp movement and tossed over her shoulder, "I’ve said what I needed to. Mr. Reid, do as you please. I’m going home—Logan!"
Logan stopped her with a calm but cutting statement:
"Mrs. Reid, you might be mistaken. The person in that hospital room wasn’t Angelica."
Selina let out a cold scoff.
Looking down at the little firecracker in his arms, Logan chuckled softly. "Dr. Butler is a burn specialist. Even if Angelica did come to the hospital, she’d be seeing an OB-GYN. The injured one was Jaxon—I only came to bring him in. I didn’t even know Angelica’s room was on the same floor."
Selina’s angry expression froze. "...Huh? Huh??"
