The music was vibrating through the dimly lit nightclub, the air was thick with the crowd’s energy.
Valerie eyed the Neon lights flashing across the room and squeezed her eyes. The brightness was killing her eyes.
Seated at a table, she adjusted the hem of her navy blue dress, which was simple, hugging her figure, without being revealing.
Her motto in life had been, that the nightclub wasn’t for the ladies who were scared to show off their skin and today she was one of them.

Because tonight she was accompanying Nina due to her endless begging. Nina had been asking her to leave her hotel room and get out of this depression phase.
How could Valerie not be depressed? She was the one who witnessed her husband licking her dear sister.
Nina could never imagine what she was going through. She wished, she could have used half of her brain and taken Nina to that pool instead of running away like a chicken.
She made a mistake.
In this way, she could have caught Rafael red-handed and could sue him for extramarital affairs.
She jumped with a gasp when someone touched her arm lightly, "Come on, Valerie. Loosen up! This place is exactly what you need right now," Nina’s voice was barely audible due to the loud music and Valerie tried to smile for her mother-in-law’s sake.
Initially, Nina had been very aggressive when she learned that Valerie had left her there. She took it as an insult but then she not only forgave her later but also helped her in getting back to life.
When Marissa had left Kanderton, they had thought that she would give up on Rafael, marry someone else, and have his kids.
But the who*re proved them wrong. She didn’t remarry, nor did she have kids. Valerie turned her head and found Nina observing her.
Valerie forced a smile, feeling out of place despite Nina’s best intentions. She was here due to Nina’s continuous persistence.
Nina signaled a waiter and ordered drinks for them.
"Nina!" Valerie tried to protest but Nina wasn’t ready to take no for an answer. After the waiter left, she leaned in closer to Valerie, her eyes glimmering with mischief, "You need to let those thoughts flow away. Let them go. Why don’t you hit the floor, love?"
Valerie hesitated, her eyes scanned the crowded dance floor and then she shuddered. She wasn’t in the mood for any human connection.
"I- I don’t know, Nina," she shook her head with a smirk, "I’m not really in the mood."
Nina wanted to roll her eyes but then avoided doing it.
"It’s just one dance! Go! It won’t harm you. At least, try, Valerie," she held her hand, "Why are you giving up so easily?"
Valerie rolled her lips in between her teeth, "What if they have a baby or something," she whispered, and Nina got up from her chair.
"Enough of this bullshit. Go and dance!" she started pulling Valerie’s hand, "Get up!"
Valerie could see angry lines on her face. Maybe she had pulled a cord deep inside.
Reluctantly, she sighed and then allowed herself to pull along. After pushing her to the dance floor, Nina had gone back to her seat and now Valerie was on her own.
The music was loud, and the crowd was wild. Valerie made an honest effort to let go of all her worries and swayed to the beat. After a few minutes, she started relaxing and even laughed when saw someone making wild dance moves.
I should at least try to reciprocate the effort. Valerie thought to herself and got up with a smile, "I’ll get us another round of drinks," she offered Nina, nodding towards the bar.
