"Will you miss me?" Abi asked Georgie who was slinging his small bag on his shoulders. Marissa had packed a few goodies in his bag as a reminder of his loving triplet friends.
"Don’t worry, Abi," he lifted himself on his toes to have a better look outside the window, "I’ll come to you once I’m grown up," he promised her.
Abi nodded with a sad face. Georgie’s dad was here, and she hated him for taking her best friend away.
She quickly went to her mini closet and took out a stuffed toy that was her most favorite one, "Keep it till you meet me, Georgie."
Georgie held the toy and observed it for a minute, "Are you sure, Abi? This is your beloved one," Abi shook her head.
"Just don’t forget to come back to me, Georgie," she pleaded innocently.
"I won’t," Georgie said shaking her hand.
Marissa stepped inside the room where Abi was still telling Georgie about something, and she could sense how upset Abi was.
"Don’t worry, Abi. I’m sure when we meet next, you’ll be running like Usain Bolt," he assured her and held her hand.
"Georgie. Your dad is waiting, honey," Marissa reminded him softly. Her heart went out to that boy who was trying his best to comfort her daughter.
Abi might be putting on a brave façade, but Marissa knew her better.
"Why is he leaving, Mommy? Why can’t he stay with us?" When Georgie went out of the room, Abi asked her mother in a cracked voice.
Marissa kneeled to get to her eye level, "Like us, he also deserves a good family life, sweetheart. Just like you’re happy with your parents he also wants to enjoy his dad’s company."
Marissa hoped she was right about it. Georgie’s father seemed a reasonable man and explained to them how Delinda had flown away with the child, leaving no trail.
"I had a secretary who was such a good employee of mine, Mrs. Sinclair. Delinda thought I was having an affair with her. She wanted me to fire her, but this secretary was so good in her job that she was almost my right hand and was never interested in women, to be precise," he told Marissa and Rafael.
For some odd reason, Marissa kept missing Delinda. How she believed so easily that Marissa was a home wrecker.
Nina was responsible for destroying so many lives.
No matter how absurd Delinda was, she was a good mother to Georgie.
"Please let Georgie stay in contact with Abi. They’ve become good friends over the year."
His father nodded and shook Rafael’s hand with a warm smile. Rafael had lifted Abi in his arms. He was aware of how emotionally vulnerable his daughter was.
He stayed there with his daughter until the car disappeared from sight. Once it turned the corner, he brought her back inside.
"Hey, princess," he kissed her cheek with affection, "Ready for all the play dates?"
She was recovering at a good pace and her doctors thought that simple physical activities should be introduced gradually into her routine.
