"Why are you here?" Nina furrowed when she saw who the visitor was, "You didn’t help me when I wanted to come out of here. Now when they are sending me to Central jail, what good this visit will do to me?"
Nina wasn’t expecting Valerie when she was informed that she had a visitor. Among all the inmates, she was one of the rare ones who never got any visitors.
"I was just here to get some information," Valerie tried to make a conversation, but Nina didn’t take time to get up from her seat.
"You got to be kidding, Valerie. Information? What information are you talking about?" she turned away to leave the meeting room when Valerie raised her voice.
"Nina, please. I’m here to take you out!" her words made Nina stop.
"What do you mean?" she whispered in disbelief.
"What I mean to say is..." Valerie swiped her tongue over her lower lip, "I know it wasn’t your fault. You didn’t kill anyone intentionally. Miles and Shane created the circumstances. Believe me. I can help you, Nina."
Nina kept staring at her and when Valerie nodded at her encouragingly, she at last closed her eyes and sat back on the seat with a boring look, "Shoot it! What is it this time?"
Valerie bent a little forward and eyed the woman who had gotten weak while serving her time in jail, "There are things in Rafael’s statements that my lawyer thinks can be challenged in the courtroom. The good thing is we can reopen this case," Valerie informed her with suppressed excitement.
Nina didn’t believe her but now there was hope in her eyes.
Hope for freedom.
Rafael and Marissa never attended her calls and there was no one she could rely on. Right now, she didn’t have any better option than Valerie.
"Why don’t you bring the lawyer," Nina suggested to Valerie, "I can tell him directly about everything. Tell him that I’ll pay him good."
Valerie wanted to laugh at that, but she controlled her mirth.
"No, Nina. This doesn’t work like that. First, you tell me what happened and then he will decide when he can start working."
Nina had doubts in her eyes. She couldn’t trust Valerie but...
"Ok," she nodded, "I can tell from starting when I got married to Shane..." she trailed off when saw Valerie shaking her head.
"N-no, Nina. I’m not interested in those tales..." Valerie raised her palm, "Just let me know how you did it?"
Nina gave her a confused look, "Did what?"
"Taming Rafael... when he used to be Alexander Sinclair," When Nina heard that, the contours on her face hardened.
"What do you mean by that?" she hissed at Valerie looking around, "What are you talking about?"
Valerie didn’t even budge at Nina’s rude tone.
"Listen, Nina. The lawyer found this part convincing. Tell me what you did to him when he was a child. Because my lawyer thinks that whatever Rafael told the court about this, it can easily be challenged."
Nina didn’t have it in herself to repeat all those things. She got cruel with Rafael Sinclair just to make him, her son.
She looked at Valerie and asked tiredly, "What do you need to know?"
***
This was new for Valerie. Today she had to accept that Nina was a smart woman. She studied child psychology before imprisoning Rafael in a room without any light, food, or drink.
Nina wasn’t aware why Valerie was interested to know about the torture inflicted on Rafael. Nina told her everything, thinking that she had nothing to lose since she was already in jail for the years ahead. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
