If this had been in the past, Sean would have eagerly run to Nadine and handed her the phone, letting her take the call. But today, he felt differently.

Nadine had been hugging Avery and crying quietly in the kitchen, thinking he didn't know. Now that he did know, he couldn't let her suffer anymore. His little lips were pouted, showing no intention of giving the phone to Nadine.

With his left arm injured, he held the smartwatch in his right hand and spoke with a haughty tone to Brad on the other end of the line.

"No! You're so mean. I won't let you see Mommy again, and I definitely won't give you another chance to bully her!"

Nadine cried so sadly. She must have been hurt badly by Brad. As her precious child, he had to protect her and could no longer let Brad bully her.

Brad suddenly felt overwhelmed. What was going on with these two today? Why were they both so defiant? They were really giving him a headache.

Remembering that Sean was still recovering, Brad didn't get angry. Instead, he suppressed his frustration and said to Sean on the other end, "Listen. Be good and give the phone to your mom. I need to talk to her."

Nadine had slapped him last night. Normally, he would have retaliated to show her the consequences of daring to hit her.

Though he wouldn't go so far as to hurt her seriously, he would at least make her understand what it meant to defy him.

However, after leaving the hospital and thinking it over, he hadn't done anything. Even he didn't understand why he'd let her off the hook, or why he even found that moment of Nadine's vulnerability to be oddly endearing.
