Chapter 318
Chapter 318
After padding the boots with several layers of cloth, Jessica could finally squeeze her feet in, though it was still a pretty tight fit.
Leon tore two strips of cloth and secured the boot shafts around Jessica’s calves, so she could run and jump without worrying they’d slip off
When Leon finished helping her with her boots and stood, he noticed she had been staring at him intently the whole time. “What’s wrong? Are your feet still feeling uncomfortable?” Leon crouched again, ready to check her boots.
“I can’t believe how tiny your feet are,” Leon mumbled helplessly. “These boots are way too big for you.”
Just as Leon reached out, he heard Jessica murmur, “It’s fine now. Don’t bother.”
Leon asked, “Are you sure? Still feeling uncomfortable?”
“Well, at least now it’s bearable,” Jessica replied quietly. The boots were still a bit too big, but she had to wear them to mask her identity.
“Let’s go.” Leon gave Jessica’s hand a brief tug to help her down, then immediately let go as they went their respective ways.
The cave system was enormous. But several interconnected caverns had been artificially linked from inside. After Leon took out the guard at one of the
entrancès, he and Jessica swiftly slipped inside.
Inside, they found themselves in a whole new world. But since everyone was dressed in identical black robes and masks, neither Leon nor Jessica was
recognized.
After padding her boots with several layers of cloth, Jessica, who was usually on the short side, suddenly looked much taller, almost as if by magic. She was a bit short for a man, but still looked normal enough.
“This way,” Jessica whispered, giving Leon a gentle tug before swiftly turning into another hidden passage.
The medicinal scent on Lucy grew fainter with time. Once inside, a mix of pungent, nose–stinging odors filled the air, making it nearly impossible to distinguish the powder’s scent.
After much difficulty, Jessica finally managed to catch the scent again. She felt her way forward as the path grew increasingly treacherous. Until, to her surprise, several stone chambers suddenly appeared before her.
Jessica glanced at Leon, who gave her a subtle nod. So, the two of them edged their way over.
Sure enough, from one of the stone chambers, Lucy’s pleading voice reached them. “Sect leader, I can’t go back to the palace anymore. Please, let me return to the Leader’s side, I beg you.‘
Lucy was on the ground, injured. It was obvious she was beaten by the black–robed man she called “sect leader.”
The sect leader said coldly, “You failed your mission, exposed our outpost, and even got Hall Master captured by the imperial court. How dare you still think of returning to our leader’s side?”
Lucy pleaded desperately, “Doesn’t our leader need female assassins? I can do it. sect leader, please, I beg you. Let me go back to him. Whatever he wants, I’ll do it!”
Lucy seemed obsessed with her leader. “Sir,” Lucy pleaded, “You promised that after three years in the palace, you’d let me return to his side. I—”
“Has it been three full years since you entered the palace?” the sect leader asked, looking down at her with a cold gaze.
