"Don't you know how to fight back?" Leonardo's tone was full of criticism.
Samantha felt deeply aggrieved. Her eyes started to sting and tear up as she kept her head down, refusing to look at Leonardo.
She had been trying so hard to keep the peace in their family by swallowing her grievances, only to be criticized in the end.
"I didn't mean to snap at you," Leonardo said.
"Okay…" Samantha's eyes were already red-rimmed as she held back the tears. She was both hurt and trying to act tough.
Leonardo couldn't help but feel a little sorry for her. It seemed like she had suffered through a lot while he was away, but she hadn't told him anything.
Now, the two of them were stuck outside the apartment as if they were homeless. It was almost amusing.
It was winter. The marble tiles in the hallways felt like giant slabs of ice, sending a chill through the air.
Leonardo had expected they would be home right after getting off the elevator. He had never imagined this would happen.
"Are you cold?" Leonardo asked.
Samantha shook her head. Despite that, Leonardo took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders. It was large, and it completely enveloped Samantha.
Samantha couldn't help but worry about Leonardo. "You'll get cold."
"It's more troublesome to take care of you," Leonardo retorted.
Samantha was speechless. He really had a sharp tongue.
Leonardo turned and was already calling Laura's number.
