When Elena looked up again, her pitiful look had faded. Even though she and Wesley didn't show up on the blind date, he was the only one taking the blame.
She wiped her tears away, flashing a sweet smile as if nothing had happened. "Sorry. I didn't mean to make a scene."
Everyone understood what Elena was going through, so no one made fun of her.
Leonardo teased, "Your acting skills are splendid, Ms. York. Why not give acting a shot?"
Elena sported a wry smile. "I'd love to, but my family won't let me, saying no wealthy family would accept an actress…"
She paused mid-sentence, realizing it didn't come out right. So, she quickly rephrased it. "My old geezer is totally stuck in the past. He'd never be on board with it, and I don't get to say no."
Samantha added, "But I see courage in you."
Elena giggled. "Courage? I call it being difficult."
As she spoke, she looked down at her watch before continuing, "I need to go, or else I'm in trouble."
Samantha waved her hand. "Alright. Stay safe."
Elena waved goodbye. "See you."
The assistant was on her heels the entire time, moving like an invisible robot and lending a hand only when Elena asked.
Samantha was a little skeptical about Elena's assistant. What if the assistant was just there to keep an eye on Elena for Paul?
Leonardo gently rubbed Samantha's head. "Don't worry about Elena. Knowing her, if it was someone sent by Mr. York, she wouldn't have the person around."
She nodded in agreement. "That's true."
Elena was too sharp to be anyone's puppet, but the road ahead was going to be tough for her.
Simon also waved and took off, but it was hard to tell whether he was going after Elena or just heading home. However, that was none of Samantha's business, so she didn't pry.
Standing next to Samantha, Leonardo called out to her, "I miss it when you used to care about me so much."
Samantha turned around and locked eyes with Leonardo. His eyes were filled with longing as if she'd been neglecting him on purpose.
