Samantha didn't even dare to look at the papers, as if she'd get charged for looking at them.
She was debating how to turn down Leonardo's offer of giving her a house when Layla came to mind, so she messaged Layla.
Samantha texted, "Leonardo suddenly handed me a stack of papers and said he wanted to buy me a house."
Before she could even ask, Layla already replied, "Do it."
Layla's response was simple and straight to the point.
Samantha didn't hesitate and continued, "How can I accept a house from someone for no reason?"
"Isn't he your husband?" came Layla's question.
That was how it looked on the surface, but Samantha and Leonardo were in a contractual marriage. Biting on her lower lip, she thought about how to reply.
Layla texted again, "Every penny he makes now is the marital assets. Plus, even if he buys a house in his name, you'll still get half of it.
"The money belongs to both of you. Whoever pays for the house gets it, and the name on the paperwork doesn't really matter."
The house went to whoever paid for it. So, when Leonardo bought the house with his money, the house was still rightfully his.
Ironically, hearing that made Samantha feel a little more at ease.
She stated, "Alright."
Thinking Samantha had gotten it straight, Layla immediately asked whether her area was a place Samantha considered. She set down her phone and looked through the documents.
She wasn't going to pick anything that wasn't listed in the papers, and it just so happened that the high-end neighborhood Layla lived in was right near the school campus. It was in the documents, too.
Samantha sent a message. "I found it."
Layla suggested, "Should we check it out?"
Samantha nodded. "Sure. I'll come by after my class. It ends at 3:00 pm."
Layla replied, "Great. I'll pick out the best units in the area and get the list ready for you. No one is going to buy them today. I'll save them just for you."
