Chapter 150
Yvette was adding Vivienne on social media when she suddenly spotted Sophia approaching. Her smile froze, and her eyes darted nervously.
She said, “Sophia, you are here. I was just about to go up and find you. What a coincidence, I just ran into your roommate.”
Sophia arched an eyebrow mockingly. She asked, “Were you looking for me, or just looking for trouble?”
Yvette looked at the people behind Sophia, her face filled with sorrow and resignation. She said softly, “Sophia, I know you don’t like me, but I am and always will be your sister.”
Sophia sneered, “Does a jinx like you deserve to be called my sister?” Catching sight of Vivienne’s gloating expression, she added, “Ms. Monroe, Yvette is notorious as a bad luck charm. Get too close, and misfortune will follow!”
Yvette’s face paled as she looked at Sophia with teary–eyed grievance. She said, “Even if you resent me, you can’t just…”
Sophia cut her off. She said, “Am I wrong? Ever since you came back to the Chandler family, it’s been nothing but chaos, not a single peaceful day. Even your adoptive family: some went bankrupt, others landed in jail, all thanks to you.”
With that, Sophia abruptly changed tack and turned to Vivienne. She continued, “And take Zachary, just for getting too close to Yvette, he got embroiled in a scandal and had to be suspended.
“Yvette, just think about it. Who around you is doing well? Some lose their fortunes and reputations, others end up in jail. Honestly, it’s terrifying just thinking about it.”
Cornered and speechless, Yvette choked out, “It’s because of you. It’s all your fault.”
Sophia said, “Yeah, it’s all my fault, as if I made you chase after Zachary every damn day. Happy now?”
Sophia’s words hit harder than any argument. The moment Vivienne heard Zachary’s name, her expression darkened. She glared at Yvette and demanded, “You’ve been seeing Zachary?”
Vivienne had come specifically for an arranged marriage alliance. Vivienne’s grandmother, Savannah, had said that forging ties with the Hartwick family would be ideal, but if that didn’t work out, the Dawson family was the secondary option. And Zachary was on her list.
So Vivienne felt what Yvette was doing was essentially poaching her prospect.
Yvette’s heart sank. She knew things were taking a turn for the worse. But before she could say a word, Sophia jumped in first.
Sophia sneered, “She’s been visiting Zachary at the hospital every single day, dining together, picking out gifts. See that butterfly hairpin Yvette’s wearing? It is a little present from Zachary.”
Yvette instinctively touched the butterfly hairpin on her head. Meeting Vivienne’s furious gaze, she pleaded, “Sophia’s lying! Don’t believe her.”
Sophia demanded, “Just tell me. Did Zachary buy this butterfly hairpin or not?”
Panic seized Yvette, her heart sinking like a stone. At that moment, she was utterly speechless.
Feeling utterly betrayed, Vivienne, burning with humiliation and rage, slapped Yvette hard across the face. She snapped, “Yvette! How dare you make moves on Zachary! You scheming little bitch!”
Yvette stood rooted to the spot. She stared at Vivienne with wide, disbelieving eyes and murmured, “Vivienne?”
Vivienne spat, “Don’t you dare call me by name! We’re not friends. If you weren’t Sophia’s sister, I wouldn’t even bother with you.”
She immediately deleted Yvette from her contacts and, without so much as a glance at her, turned on her heel and walked away.
Yvette stared at Vivienne’s retreating figure and was about to chase after her when Sophia yanked her back by the arm, stopping her in her tracks.
Chapter 150
Sophia leaned in, her demonic whisper slithering into Yvette’s ear: “So much for your ‘best friend.“”
In her first life, Sophia had no will of her own. She was like a puppet on strings, following the plot. She had died so tragically that she had finally
awakened.
Yvette shouted, “Sophia, what the hell are you trying to do? Why would you do this?” Her eyes were red–rimmed, tears brimming–half from hurt, half from fury.
She thought, ‘Vivienne and I are supposed to be inseparable best friends. But now, because of Sophia, everything is destroyed!
Yvette screamed, “It’s all because of you, Sophia! All your fault. You’re the one who deserves to die the most! I won’t let you ruin my plans anymore. ! won’t give up. I’ll make you see.
“You’ll never measure up to me. You were born to be a side character. That’s your destiny! Think you can rewrite fate? Let’s see if the heavens will allow
it!”
Yvette had been relentlessly suppressed by Sophia, her psyche teetering on the brink of collapse.
Yet every morning when she woke up, the fear Sophia had instilled in her would melt away, and she’d go right back to squaring off against Sophia, as if nothing had ever happened.
Yvette’s frenzied state was exactly what Sophia wanted to see. A cold smile curled on her lips, her gaze as sharp and icy as a blade. She sneered, “Rewrite fate? Maybe you’re right. But I won’t just rewrite it, I’ll crush it completely.”
A bone–chilling terror shot up from the soles of Yvette’s feet, spreading through her entire body like icy tendrils. Instinctively, she stumbled back two steps. She shouted, “You’re insane, Sophia! You’ll pay for this!” With that, she turned and bolted from the scene.
Sophia stood rooted to the spot. Her gaze, cold and inscrutable, was fixed on Yvette’s panicked, fleeing figure.
Parents and students milled around, casting curious glances at Sophia. But the intimidating aura she exuded kept everyone at a safe distance. No one dared approach.
A few steps behind Sophia, Dorian, Maelis, and Nadia lingered, watching the scene unfold.
Dorian lowered his eyes, a complicated look in them. He fiddled with the bracelet on his wrist.
Maelis, the naive one, leaned in and whispered, “Dorian, what’s going on here? Wasn’t this the first time Yvette and Vivienne had met? And what’s with all that ‘side character‘ and ‘rewriting fate‘ talk? Is Yvette out of her mind or something?”
Dorian shot her a disdainful look and said, “You’re not exactly a genius yourself.”
Maelis was fuming. She thought, ‘Being looked down on by Sophia is bad enough, but now even Dorian dares to mock me. “Listen here kid, you wanna see if I’ll smack you?” she threatened.
