Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson) novel Chapter 1579

"My team found two batches of gold bars under the floor tiles in the inner room. How did they get there?"

Elliot's words made Nancy freeze.

She had not expected him to discover her well-hidden stash so quickly.

She swallowed nervously, staying silent.

Elliot added, "Mrs. Snyder, don't try to fool me. Your house, every inch of it, has been thoroughly inspected by the National Investigation Bureau. If necessary, they would dig deep to find what I'm looking for."

Nancy's fear deepened.

"M-My husband and son bought them with their hard-earned money. It's legitimate money. Is that illegal?"

Elliot shook his head.

Just as Nancy was about to relax, he said, "That's uncertain yet. If the money was earned through legitimate means, it's not illegal. But if it was obtained through any kind of shady dealings, then it is illegal. With such a large amount, you'd definitely be looking at jail time."

Nancy shook her head frantically.

"I haven't done anything wrong. Please don't arrest me. I'm just an ordinary village woman. Mr. Jenkins, please let me go."

Elliot sighed, losing patience with her evasions.

He stood up and walked over to the table, pouring himself a cup of hot water and taking a slow sip.

"Your son is dead and has been for many years. He never had the chance to grow up and go to the city for work. You and your husband had a poor relationship, and he left you years ago without ever returning. You've been lying to us this whole time. You barely make enough to live on by selling vegetables and eggs. Suddenly, you have this large amount of gold bars. How is that not suspicious?"

His tone was matter-of-fact as he poured a cup of water for Nancy and placed it in front of her.

Nancy was too scared to take it, trembling all over.

Elliot did not push her.

He set the cup back on the table and said, "I have the patience to wait you out. When you decide to tell the truth, you can leave. But if you stay silent, I wonder if your chickens in the backyard will starve to death after a month without care?"

He chuckled softly, adjusted his coat sleeves, and left the room.

Nancy panicked, her voice shaking as she called after him, "Mr. Jenkins, please don't do this… I can't tell you. If I do, they'll kill me. They're ruthless. They even have guns. They'll kill me."
