Sheena returned to the ward.
Yosef had left to attend to his work, and Lionel had gone back to the bureau.
Only the two little ones remained.
Exhausted from playing, Asher had fallen asleep with an IV drip in his arm.
Adora sat by the window, looking out with an uncharacteristically glum expression.
She was not her usual cheerful self and seemed lost in thought.
"Adora, what are you looking at?" Sheena asked softly, walking over and gently ruffling her precious daughter's hair.
"Mommy," Adora said, her voice wavering.
She threw herself into Sheena's arms, tears in her eyes.
"It's all my fault Asher got hurt today. I feel so bad…" Adora whimpered, her small voice thick with guilt.
Her long lashes quickly became wet as tears rolled down her cheeks.
It was clear that the incident had genuinely frightened her.
Sheena patiently wiped away her tears and hugged her tightly, comforting her.
"It's not your fault. It's Daddy's and my fault for not being around as much these past few days. We know how happy you and Asher are to have me back, so you were just having fun. It's okay. Also, Asher is a boy and also your big brother, so it's natural for him to want to protect you. Asher doesn't blame you at all."
With Sheena's comforting words, the little girl eventually stopped crying and fell asleep in her mother's arms.
Sheena gently wiped the remaining tears from Adora's cheeks, feeling an overwhelming sense of contentment.
All she wanted was for everyone she cared about to be safe and healthy, to raise her children well, and to live a happy life with Elliot.
Everything else, to her, was secondary.
…
As night fell, Elliot and his team arrived at the hotel where Nancy was being held.

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
