Nathaniel's eyebrows furrowed slightly, and his usually cold eyes softened as they met hers.
"Do you like it?"
Mavis nodded.
It would be a lie to say she felt nothing.
All she had ever wanted was for Nathaniel to see a bit of good in her, just enough to create some beautiful memories during their year-long contract marriage.
They sat across from each other.
However, Nathaniel's expression remained indifferent, devoid of any particular emotion.
Mavis asked cautiously, "Are you… upset?"
"No. This is to make up for the date," Nathaniel replied as he placed a piece of cut steak on her plate.
Mavis felt a wave of happiness.
She mimicked his actions, cutting a piece of steak for him as well.
"We've both been really bitter lately, using the worst tone and words to hurt each other. To be honest… I'm partly to blame for recent events too. I know my place, and I understand that our one-year contract marriage is just a mutually beneficial arrangement. I shouldn't have let my feelings get out of control or asked for too much. I've been arguing with you a lot lately, and for that, I apologize," Mavis said earnestly, her eyes fixed on him.
Nathaniel stopped cutting his steak and met her gaze before quickly lowering his eyes again.
He remained silent, not saying a word.
Mavis could not read his mind, so she continued, "I know you don't like me, and I'm not a suitable match for you. You're the CEO of the Nicholls Group, the head of the Nicholls family, while I'm just a girl from a small village."
If it were not for Nathaniel's marriage agreement, she would never have had the chance to be by his side.
She should be grateful for having even a brief moment with him.
"But on the day we picked you up from the village, I saw another girl standing beside you…"
Mavis wanted to say the girl looked a lot like Sheena, but she decided not to.
She tightened her grip on the knife and fork, speaking honestly.

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
