Nathaniel retracted his indifferent gaze and walked out of the office, leaving Mavis in a daze.
Soon, Nathaniel was in the elevator heading downstairs, straight to Kristen's desk.
He needed to clear up the misunderstanding that had caused Kristen unnecessary trouble.
In the business department, Kristen had just wiped away her tears, her eyes still red.
She was surprised to see Nathaniel, and her tears welled up again.
"Nate, why did you come down here?"
"I heard Grandma hit you."
Kristen looked momentarily aggrieved but quickly masked her emotions, trying to appear strong.
"It's okay. Grandma must have misunderstood me. She's always been good to you and Ms. Olsen. It's my fault she doesn't like me."
Nathaniel didn't want to say much. "I'll explain things. I don't want you to be troubled. Just focus on your work."
Kristen quickly waved her hand, acting considerate. "No, that's your grandmother. We need to respect our elders, not upset them. If she misunderstands me, I'll just stay out of her way."
"I'm talking about Mavis."
Kristen's face crumpled, looking even more pitiful. "Nate, you can't. No matter what, Mavis is your wife. Don't hurt her. It will only break her heart and make you unhappy. I don't want you to suffer."
She did not elaborate further, but her words implied that Mavis had done something to make Mildred slap her.
Nathaniel stayed silent.
Soon, Tommy arrived with an ice pack for Kristen.
After Nathaniel left, the office buzzed with curiosity, and everyone crowded around Kristen, inspecting the ice pack.
A female colleague squealed, "Mr. Nicholls is so good to you, Kristen. Mr. Nicholls isn't married, is he?"
Kristen was momentarily stunned but quickly shook her head. "I'm not sure. It doesn't seem like he's married."

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
