Mavis was instantly disheartened when she heard those words.
She looked around, suddenly feeling detached and disoriented.
This was the company and husband she had always trusted.
It had all been a lie.
She stared up at the light above her, tempted to slam her head into it, to shatter into a million pieces and escape this unbearable feeling of betrayal from Nathaniel.
However, she could not afford to be reckless. She had to think about her baby.
A few minutes later, Tommy walked in with the evidence of the investigation.
The surveillance footage showed that Mavis had been staying late at work for the past few days.
As Nathaniel's assistant, she had been alone in his office with the new project files.
Plus, she had admitted to visiting the cafe where she had seen the competitor's representative.
All the evidence pointed to her.
Nathaniel read through the documents in silence, then slammed them down on the table, trying to control his anger.
The room was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.
After a long pause, Nathaniel spoke, his voice controlled but stern.
"Mavis, since you've been a long-time employee, I won't press any charges. Just go to HR and process your resignation."
With that, he stood up and walked out of the room.
The others followed, leaving Mavis and Kristen alone.
Kristen walked over, looking at Mavis with the smugness of a winner.
She flashed a wicked smile and taunted Mavis, "Go ahead and cry if you want to. It's over. I won."
Mavis chuckled. "Yes, you won. I'm just the fool who fell for it."
"You're so weak. I've faced many opponents, but none as foolish as you. You refused to back down, even when it was clear you were fighting a losing battle."
Kristen's sweet facade was gone, and her words were cruel.
It was as if she had turned into a different person.

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
