Gabrielle struggled to speak.
"Mae, Nate said he's very busy at work right now, so he's going to stay at the office for a while and won't be coming home."
After she finished speaking, she could not even look at Mavis.
Mavis gave a bitter smile and then sent a message to Nathaniel, [You can avoid me for now, but not forever. Let's find a time to talk.]
During breakfast, Mavis was distracted. Mildred noticed and simply said, "Eat more. Your health is important."
However, she did not comment more.
The message Mavis sent went unanswered, of course.
She tried calling him, but there was no response. During her lunch break, Mavis stubbornly called again.
This time, after ringing for a long time, Nathaniel finally answered.
"Nathaniel, what's the point of avoiding me? Is it so hard to sit down and talk?" Mavis asked directly.
His voice was deep and cold. "The company is in chaos. I'm busy dealing with it and don't know when I'll have time."
"I have evidence that proves I had nothing to do with this. How can I show it to you if you keep avoiding me?" Mavis persisted.
There was a long silence on the other end.
"We'll talk when I'm done."
Then, he hung up.
Mavis stood there, looking at the peonies in the garden, feeling as if she might never see such vibrant colors again.
Frustrated and upset, she wanted to find a way to ease her troubled mind.
She felt trapped in a never-ending cycle. The more she tried to forget, the more vividly she remembered.
Suddenly, she thought of Sheena, who was abroad, and also Asher and Adora.

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
