Sheena's smile faded quickly as she grasped Nathaniel's implication.

"Are you suggesting that I have something to do with those kidnappers?"

"Of course not. I would never think that, Nana. But the woman I saw was suspicious, and I have to check it out," Nathaniel replied, his voice firm.

Sheena stepped aside and said, "Go ahead and check, but I just came from the stairwell and didn't see any suspicious nurse. Maybe she ran in another direction."

"We'll know soon enough."

Nathaniel pushed open the door and stepped into the stairwell, only to find that no one was there, just a pair of white shoes neatly placed on the floor.

The stairwell was eerily quiet, with no sounds from either above or below.

Nathaniel's gaze fell on the shoes, and his expression turned serious.

Sheena noticed where he was looking and bent down to examine the shoes.

The soles were clean as if they had never been worn outside.

Sheena chuckled lightly. "It's probably just some nurse who has a date after work and brought a fresh pair of shoes to change into. Do you think they're suspicious?"

"They're definitely too clean," Nathaniel agreed, though it was unclear whether he found them truly suspicious or not.

With no cameras in the stairwell and the silence pressing in, Nathaniel's tense expression finally softened.

"Maybe I'm just being overly paranoid. I'm just worried something else might happen to Callum or Asher."

Sheena sighed. "Don't be so hard on yourself. Callum's been down these past couple of days, so try to spend more time with him if you can. He only seems to smile when he's with Adora."

Nathaniel's eyes dimmed at the mention of Callum.

Even though he was sad, he forced a smile and replied, "He doesn't really want to see me right now. I think he'll be upset with me for a few more days. Maybe you could check on him for me?"

Knowing this was all tied to what had happened with Asher, Sheena did not press further. She nodded and left the stairwell, heading toward Callum's room.

Nathaniel stood still and stared at Sheena's retreating figure, though it seemed as if he were looking through her at someone else entirely.

The silhouette of the woman from before… was so familiar.
