Nathaniel did not seem particularly surprised to see Mavis at E&S Haven.
Instead, the little boy holding his hand was bursting with excitement.
"Mommy!"
Callum broke free from Nathaniel's hand and sprinted toward Mavis, wrapping his arms around her.
"Mommy, didn't you miss me? Why haven't you come to see me these past few days?"
Mavis kissed his little cheeks and ruffled his short hair.
"Of course I missed you. I missed you so much that I couldn't sleep at night. But something came up, and I couldn't visit you. I'm sorry."
He did not press further, simply beaming.
"It's okay! We're together now!"
His big blue eyes were so full of joy that they melted her heart.
"Come on," Mavis said, her heart softening as she held his hand. "I grilled a fish just for you. Let's have a taste."
Nathaniel stood in place, watching them walk away together, hand in hand.
Callum seemed to have forgotten entirely his father's presence when he saw Mavis, eagerly leading her away without a second glance.
Nathaniel shook his head with a faint, amused smile. "Ungrateful little rascal."
"That's not quite right, Uncle Nate."
Adora had approached quietly.
With her high ponytail and fresh, youthful face, she exuded confidence, likely due to her time at military school.
Nathaniel turned to her, raising an eyebrow. "What's not right?"
"Auntie Mae carried Beanie for nine months, and he was connected to her by the umbilical cord. She went through so much pain to bring him into this world. It's only natural for him to be good to her. That's his way of repaying her."
Nathaniel smiled slightly, not arguing.
Instead, he asked, "Where's Asher?"
"Asher's got a city-level math competition next week, so he's upstairs studying. He said he'd skip dinner, but we should bring him some of the barbecue later."
Asher could easily win awards even in national-level competition. So, the fact that he was preparing for a mere city-level competition was clearly an excuse to avoid Nathaniel. Asher simply did not want to see him.

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
