Chapter 304
Chapter 304
The Queen glared at the maid, her face cold. “If you’re truly not the one. I certainly won’t wrongfully accuse you. What’s your name
The Queen narrowed her eyes and asked coldly. “Why so flustered? Could it be that you’re feeling guilty?”
“No, not me. I swear, Your Highness. I’m innocent. Please, don’t blame me!” Ada was so terrified that the nearly collapsed. Her body shook violently
“Your Highness, look at her. She’s the culprit!” Danna said sternly. “Apprehend her and put her through a tough interrogation! We’ll surely get the truth
out of her.”
The Queen turned to Jessica and asked, “Jessica, what do you think?”
“Let them go and rest for now. By tonight, we’ll know who’s who,” Jessica said with quiet certainty.
Seeing this, the Queen didn’t insist further. She waved her hand dismissively and said, “Very well, we’ll follow Jessica’s suggestion. Let them rest for
now.”
The two maids, in profuse yet anxious gratitude, stumbled out unsteadily. Perhaps because her legs had gone numb from fear, Lucy nearly stumbled as she tried to leave, but no one paid her any attention.
After the maids had left, the Queen turned to Jessica with a smile and said, “Jessica, I still haven’t properly thanked you for recommending Prince
Henry.”
Jessica asked, “Your Highness, what do you think of Prince Henry’s quality?”
The Queen beamed with satisfaction. “Exceptionally educated, gentle–natured, and refined. He’s truly a rare and remarkable young man. I’m thoroughly pleased. For this, I must reward you handsomely.”
“Thank you for your generosity, Your Highness,” Jessica said, lowering her gaze. “But discretion is best in such matters. I must decline your generous reward. Should I ever find myself in need, I only hope Your Highness will offer your protection.”
The Queen sighed softly and said, “You’re truly bold yet meticulous, handling matters with perfect thoroughness. Honestly, Jessica, I pale in comparison to you.”
“Your Highness flatters me,” Jessica smiled.
“Enough with these pleasantries. I’ve taken your words to heart today, Jessica. Rest assured, your family will remain under my close watch from now on.”
“Thank you, Your Highness,” Jessica replied.
After leaving Eminence Palace, Monica cast a meaningful glance at Jessica. Jessica remained silent, and Monica didn’t press further.
Once they returned to their temporary quarters and closed the door, Monica finally asked, “Miss Yates, do you truly know who’s behind–this?“.
“I don’t know, honestly.”
“You don’t know?” Monica’s eyes widened, her voice tinged with worry.
Monica watched as Jessica walked over to the shelf, took two vials that Leanna had left, opened them, and took a careful sniff. Her calm, unhurried demeanor instantly reassured.Monica.
“Then, what should I do, Miss Yates?”
“Any news about Yuna?” Jessica asked absently as she fiddled with some ingredients, most of which Monica barely understood, Jessica seemed completely at a loss.
Monica then offered, “I’ll go ask around“.
