Chapter 307
“I don’t believe it, I don’t believe it!” Waldo slumped in his chair as if his life force had been drained. The light in his eyes had completely gone.
Waldo couldn’t believe Jessica would be so cruel to him. He refused to fall
for it.
“Why won’t Your Highness believe it?” Yuna asked, “Is it because Jessica concealed her true self so perfectly when she was by your side? She made you think she was sweet and kind, the sort who would endure any humiliation without ever standing up for herself?”
Yuna watched on, her gaze calm and detached as ever. Waldo, however, looked at the wound on her shoulder. His brow furrowed.
Yuna’s wound kept bleeding, yet she acted like it was nothing at all. Her willpower
was
downright terrifying. It even gave Waldo chills.
Yuna looked at Waldo, her gaze calm yet laced with condescending mockery. “If Your Highness doubts my words, why not confront her yourself? If Jessica has the courage, she’ll tell you exactly why she left you to perish.”
That night, just as expected, Waldo stermed into the palace and went straight for Jessica.
At that moment, Jessica had just emerged from the main hall of Adele’s palace. ‘The search‘ was merely a show. Everyone could tell she was busy collecting evidence, but she didn’t look for anything.
It seemed Jessica had everything under control when it came to catching the assassin that night. After her brief visit to Harmony Palace, even the palace staff could tell she already knew the truth.
Many people were speculating about who had conspired with outsiders to poison Malik and Elsie. Unexpectedly, before they could find the answer, Waldo, who had been missing for days, suddenly appeared.
Waldo cornered Jessica in the courtyard of Harmony Palace. Panicked, Hughie hastily dismissed all the palace maids.
Waldo limped toward Jessica, each step heavy and uneven. The majestic bearing that once marked him as the God of War was gone. He knew only too well–he was nothing but a pitiful cripple.
When he was gravely wounded, even his father had come to see him. But he could see it. Though his father’s eyes still held affection, the admiration that once shone there was gone. Even his father, the King, had turned his back on him. ‘Is all of this truly your doing, Jessica?‘
“Greetings, Your Highness,” Jessica gave a slight curtsy, her movements perfectly measured yet devoid of genuine deference.
Seeing Waldo still striding aggressively toward her, Jessica instinctively took a step back. “Your Highness, please control yourself.”
“Are you afraid of me?” Waldo finally stopped, glaring at her. “What are you hiding from me? Speak!”
“Your Highness, you must be joking,” Jessica said with a forced smile. “I merely stepped back out of concern that Your Highness might resort to improper advances and tarnish my reputation.”
Waldo glared at her and snapped, “You’re guilty as hell!”
Waldo lunged forward, reaching out to grab her. But Jessica merely shifted her footing slightly and effortlessly evaded his grasp. Her movement was more agile than his.
Prince Waldo’s face turned red in anger. “Tell me. That day, did you stand in place watching to save me? Answer me!”
