Chapter 308
Waldo was consumed by rage. Yet the woman before him, the one he could never seem to hold onto, stood serene. Her expression was plenty unperturbed.
At that moment, Walso hated her. He truly, utterly hated her. He didn’t know why she remained calm. “Tell me, do I truly mean absolutely nothing to your now?”
In the end, Waldo couldn’t tell if what he felt was agitation, despair, or sheer rage. His fingertips trembled violently, his hands clenched. His body felt frozen to the core, yet burned as if engulfed in raging flames.
Hughie saw Waldo’s face turn deathly pale and felt something was wrong. He longed to approach but didn’t dare, so he could only stand quietly by, worry etched on his face. At the same time, he felt Jessica was indeed utterly heartless toward Waldo.
After a long silence spent staring at Waldo, Jessica finally spoke, her voice cold and detached, “From the moment you trapped my brother and let Priscilla stab him, you should have known you’d never have a place in my heart again.”
She didn’t know why he accused her of being so heartless. H had brought all of this upon himself. “Your Highness, I never claimed to be a good person. The truth is, you never truly knew me.”
Jessica took several steps back, watching him stand in place, too agitated to speak. Her voice grew colder as she added, “But Your Highness, I did save your life after all, didn’t I?” She then walked away without looking back.
After standing in place for a long while, Waldo’s face suddenly contorted. He opened his mouth and coughed up a mouthful of fresh blood.
“Waldo!” Adele rushed over upon hearing the commotion and, together with Hughie, caught Waldo as he collapsed stiffly.
Adele panicked and shouted, “Call the Doctor, hurry! Waldo,
don’t scare your mother, please, Waldo…”
However, it was as if Waldo could no longer hear anything at all. All he could see in his mind were Jessica’s icy, bone–piercing eyes, overwhelming him.
‘So, she admitted it. She truly stood by and watched as the black crippled my legs, making no efforts to save me.‘
‘What’s the point of saving someone as broken as me?‘ Waldo thought bitterly. ‘I’m ruined. My father will never care for me again. This throne, this kingdom, none of it will ever be mine. Everything is lost!‘
“I… I won’t accept this.” Waldo clenched his teeth, blood still trickling from the corner of his mouth.
His voice was hoarse, each word forced out through his constricted throat as he glared with burning hatred. “I won’t accept this. Jessica, Leon, I swear, I’ll make you both pay for this!”
Jessica declared she would capture the killer that night. She had stationed her guards around the Queen’s Eminence Palace. After an undisclosed conversation with the Queen in her chambers, she and her forces maintained a tight perimeter, and then all fell eerily silent.
They waited until midnight, yet the entire palace remained deathly silent, so quiet that they could hear the rustling of wind through the treetops.
The palace maids were all on edge, huddled in small groups and whispering nervously among themselves. “Didn’t they say they’d already caught the traitor? Then why is it still so quiet?” One of the palace maids whispered nervously, doubt in her voice.
“Could it be they’re deliberately spreading rumors to make the traitor panic and expose themselves?”
One of the palace maids whispered, “Are you saying Ms. Yates doesn’t know who the traitor is, and she’s just trying to flush them ou
A palace maid scoffed, “How could that be? Whoever they are, they won’t be stupid enough to admit it.”
