Chapter 309
Chapter 309
Garbisch arrived with a contingent of the Royal Guard. After exchanging hushed words with Jessica, he hurried off. Meanwhile, Jessica inima darah) rallied her troops and prepared to withdraw from Eminence Palace.
After waiting all night, the Queen’s face darkened with displeasure. She demanded, “Ms. Yates, didn’t you promise me that you would root out the rebel- in my palace tonight? Why is there still no progress? Even worse, you withdraw your forces now”
Every maid in Eminence Palace was wondering the same thing. As a man, General Garbisch shouldn’t be wandering about the inner palace at will. Ever though he had official duties, his presence there was still highly improper.
Yet he dared to barge into the Eminence Palace. Everyone wondered what emergency could require General Garbisch’s intervention?
The palace maids exchanged bewildered glances. After
waiting through most of the night with nothing happening, Jessica was leading the Royal Guard away. “What the hell was that? We wasted almost the whole night waiting. Was it all for nothing?”
Jessica said hurriedly, “Your Majesty, my apologies. We’ve spare attention to this place tonight.”
captured rebels deploying thunder grenades outside the palace. I’m afraid we won’t be able to
Jessica was in such a desperate hurry to leave that she even forgot to pay respect when the Queen saw her. “Thunder grenades?” The Queen gasped, her face paling. “Do such weapons truly exist around this palace?”
“Your Majesty, I can’t disclose more about this. I’ll return tomorrow to make amends.” With a swift gesture, Jessica summoned her troops into the courtyard, poised to withdraw.
The maids were all shocked. “How could the Queen permit this? The Eminence Palace isn’t some place where people could come and go as they please!”
“After all this commotion, how dare she leave without giving the Queen a proper explanation? Unbelievable!”
Meanwhile, the Queen thought, “Thunder grenades? Of all things!‘
The Queen glared furiously. “Are you saying the rebels have thunder grenades? How dare you allow such dangerous criminals to remain in my courtyard?”
The Queen, flushed with anger, seized Jessica by the wrist in a vice–like grip and snapped, “No. If you don’t root out those rebels tonight, I won’t let you leave this palace!”
Jessica hurriedly tried to explain, “Your Majesty, please remain calm. It was my misjudgment that caused this misunderstanding. There are likely no rebels in this courtyard. The real threat is outside the palace walls.”
Frantic, Jessica tried to explain, but the Queen refused to release her grip. She snapped, “The Radiant Palace is inside the palace walls. How could outside rebels possibly get in? Ms. Yates, it seems you have no real capability, just spouting nonsense. What a waste to entrust the Royal Guard to someone like you!”
Jessica said urgently, “Your Majesty, we’ve confirmed rebels are making thunder grenades outside the palace. But rest assured, the Eminence Palace is
secure.”
Desperate, Jessica brashly yanked the Queen’s hand off her wrist. She took half a step back and said, “Your Majesty, I have urgent matters. I must take m
leave!”
With that, Jessica led the Royal Guard away with a wave of her hand. Furious beyond measure, the Queen stormed back into the grand hall, nearly smashing everything in sight in her rage.
“Please calm yourself, Your Majesty. Mind your royal health!” Danna urgently interjected,
The Queen was both anxious and furious. “That wretched girl. She’s desperate to make a name for herself, making a complete fool of me. But did she sa the rebels have thunder grenades?”
The Queen’s face was filled with unease. “Danna, quickly, have everyone be extra cautious tonight. Post more guards around my bedchambers, and no
