"Coming!"
Mavis was about to clear Nathaniel's breakfast plates but decided to quicken her pace after hearing his words.
She quickly stacked the plates and took them downstairs to the kitchen, making it easier for the servants to clean up.
Nathaniel was already waiting in the car.
Albeit it was only for two minutes, he was impatient, passing the time by smoking.
Mavis dashed over to his car and reached for the back door, but Nathaniel swiftly rolled down the window and snapped, "Sit in the front seat."
"Alright…"
Mavis complied nervously, buckling up her seatbelt.
Nathaniel stubbed out his cigarette and started the car, driving her to the company.
Along the way, he could not help but scold her in a cold tone.
"There were several guards at the entrance of the Nicholls residence, yet you chose to sit in the back of your own husband's car. Do you want them to gossip about our relationship?"
Mavis clutched her bag tightly, apologizing with her head down, "I'm sorry. That didn't cross my mind. I'll be more mindful next time."
Nathaniel's expression remained grim as if he had not yet shaken off his morning grumpiness.
"Don't bother clearing the plates in the room next time. The servants will come up and take care of it. You're Mrs. Nicholls, the mistress of the Nicholls residence, not a servant. Don't place yourself in a lower position. Other servants won't appreciate your gestures. They'll only look down on you."
Nathaniel was blunt, but his words did make sense.
Mavis nodded, saying, "Got it. There won't be a next time."
