As Elliot tried to clear his thoughts and analyze the situation, Lance parked the car in the open-air lot outside the lab.
He got out first and opened the rear door for Elliot.
"Mr. Jenkins, we've arrived at the lab."
Forced to set aside his thoughts, Elliot stepped out of the car with his phone and tablet.
Then, he instructed, "Head back to the office. Keep investigating Keaton. We haven't caught him yet."
"Understood," Lance replied.
After watching Elliot walk away, Lance drove off.
The lab was quiet at night, and only Asher's room had its lights on.
Not wanting the kids to wait too long, Elliot quickened his pace.
When he reached the door, he found it slightly ajar.
Just as he was about to push it open, he heard Adora's crying and Asher's patient voice.
"Asher, I miss Mommy so much… I really, really miss her," Adora sobbed, her voice choking with tears.
Asher was being unusually gentle, patiently wiping her tears with a tissue.
"Stop crying. Your eyes are all red and puffy. Daddy will notice when he gets here."
"But… I can't help it. I'm so worried about Mommy, and I'm scared of bothering Daddy," she cried.
Asher sighed, his childlike voice serious as he tried to reason with her.
"Be good, sleep well at night, and not make a fuss. That way, Daddy can focus on finding Mommy. I believe in him. He'll find her soon. Don't cry. If Daddy sees you like this, he'll be sad too. We can't make things harder for him."
The crying in the room gradually lessened, becoming intermittent and softer.
However, Elliot's heart churned with guilt, feeling like a storm was raging inside him.
His fingers trembled on the door handle, and his eyes reddened.

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
