Mavis was thoroughly startled.
Even so, she dared not to struggle, fearing she might fall.
Feeling the warmth of Nathaniel's body and hearing his heartbeat, she slowly turned and looked up at him with her swollen eyes.
At that moment, her eyes resembled those of a wounded deer, desperately seeking comfort and a warm embrace to soothe all the bullying she had endured.
Nathaniel sat on the couch with Mavis on his lap, and his fingers gently threaded through her blonde hair, soothingly rubbing the back of her head.
Mavis was stunned.
The Nathaniel before her seemed like a different person…
He was so gentle that it felt like a trap.
In his arms, Mavis gradually calmed down.
"Do you feel better after letting it all out?"
Mavis blinked, her lashes wet with tears.
Then, she nodded numbly.
Nathaniel fetched a tissue and gently wiped her tears.
"Do you still want to resign?"
His voice was uncharacteristically soft.
Surprised by his gentleness, Mavis hesitated but then nodded firmly.
Nathaniel understood her concern and released her from his embrace.
He pressed the intercom, instructing Tommy, "Mavis will work on the top floor from now on as my assistant."
Mavis was shocked.
The office gossip was already intense.
If she worked directly with him, it would only get worse.
She did not want to be a burden to him.
After hanging up, Nathaniel looked at her and raised an eyebrow.
"What are you worried about? No one will dare to gossip if you work beside me."

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
