Nathaniel's brow furrowed tightly when he heard Mavis call him with that distant and respectful tone again.
"You're my assistant. Isn't it normal for me to have you stay back and ask you questions?"
Mavis remained silent as she stood before him, waiting for instructions.
She knew she was his personal assistant and was expected to follow his orders.
"Why haven't you been delivering documents personally these days? Do you think you're too important for that task?"
Mavis looked down.
She tried to suppress her feelings of frustration by clenching her fists tightly.
Seeing her lack of response, Nathaniel pressed further, "Why aren't you answering? Are you unhappy with me? Or with your job?"
It was clear he was looking for a fight.
Mavis had held back long enough.
She could not take it anymore and snapped back at him, "I've always known my place and do everything within my boundaries. How could I possibly be unhappy with you? You make all the decisions. Why bother asking me now?"
Her sudden, cold attitude caught Nathaniel off guard.
When he saw her shivering and exhausted the day before, he immediately carried her.
He let her nuzzle into his embrace for warmth, letting her cling to him and even nestle against his chest.
He had taken care of her until she fell sound asleep, holding her until his arms ached.
Yet, she repaid him with this cold demeanor?
"If you can't focus on your work, go home. The company is not a place for you to air your resentments, and I'm not your emotional dumping ground."
His words were blunt and insensitive.
Mavis bit her lip, trying to maintain her composure.
"Yes, Mr. Nicholls."
Her sudden submissive nature only further irritated Nathaniel.

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
