Meanwhile, at the Nicholls residence…
Even though Mildred had discovered that Mavis and Nathaniel were sleeping in separate beds, she did not make a big deal out of it.
Mavis was quite surprised by this.
She had always thought wealthy elders would be very stern, a notion she had formed from watching too many dramas.
However, meeting Mildred showed her that she had been mistaken.
When Mildred found out about their separate sleeping arrangements, she closed the door and first asked Mavis how she was doing.
Then, she subtly inquired about Nathaniel's condition and got the full story.
That day, Mildred comforted her, saying, "Honestly, this isn't your fault. I'm just happy that you've joined the Nicholls family and be my granddaughter-in-law. I'm a woman myself and know how difficult it is for a woman to trust her whole life to a man. Don't worry, I'll talk to Nate about it."
Mavis was deeply touched, almost in tears, until she heard Mildred continue, "To help you two build a better relationship, I'm going to have the couch removed and leave just one bed and one blanket. I'll keep watch over you both tonight. No one gets to leave this room."
Mavis's tears of gratitude vanished in an instant.
Mildred was efficient in her task, and by the time Mavis returned from handling Asher's school matters, the room was empty except for one bed and one blanket.
Even the small stool was gone, leaving no room for them to sleep apart.
"Sweetheart, please don't think I'm meddling in your marriage."
Mavis stared at the now-empty room, hearing Mildred's voice from behind.
"I'm doing this for your own good. I know Nate's temper. The more you push him, the more he'll pull away. Sometimes, you have to take it slow. Let me be the bad guy, and you just play the role of a good wife."
Mavis felt a pang of discomfort in her heart.
"Grandma, I…"
"Mae, I know you love children. Otherwise, you wouldn't go out of your way to care for Sheena's children. Let's strike while the iron is hot. I love children too."
Mavis stared at Mildred's serious expression, feeling a bit embarrassed and unsure of what to say.
In the end, she simply nodded in response.

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
