Mavis did not respond.
She gazed at the aquarium's vast hall, feeling a wave of nostalgia.
"Do you remember this place?"
"Of course," Nathaniel replied. "This was Asher's first birthday present from me. You followed me here from Harbor City and ended up working here as the dolphins' caretaker. You saved Adora when she nearly fell into the water, and that was the first time I noticed you."
Mavis thought it was good enough that he remembered, and she did not need anything else.
She took out a USB drive, knowing neither she nor Nathaniel had brought a laptop.
She handed it to him and said, "This is the surveillance footage from the coffee shop. It proves that I had no private meetings with those two rival representatives. I'm not the mole."
Nathaniel stared at the USB drive, his gaze unreadable.
Mavis continued, "Nathaniel, I know you don't love me. You don't care about my reputation or whether I've been wronged. But wouldn't you have started investigating if it were Kristen?"
Nathaniel remained silent, feeling a strange heaviness in his chest, a complex mix of emotions.
He did not love her, but he did care about her reputation and whether she was wrongly accused.
A bitter smile crossed his face as he replied, "In the end, you never trusted me. You're still bringing up Kristen."
Mavis was baffled. "I'm not blind. I see what you've done."
Sensing the awkwardness, Mavis changed the subject.
"Let's not talk about this. It's all in the past. Our one-year agreement is almost up, and I haven't been able to win you over. I've lost."
Mavis had also brought along the divorce agreement, having already contacted a lawyer to draft it.
Rather than spending the remaining half month in a strained relationship, she decided to let go gracefully and give Nathaniel and Kristen a chance.
If Nathaniel were the one to initiate the divorce, he would certainly include financial compensation, giving her this and that to make up for it.
Hence, Mavis prepared in advance.
They had agreed that she would leave with nothing if she could not make him fall in love with her.
She accepted her loss and did not want anything that was not rightfully hers.

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
