Kristen smiled and dismissed her colleagues before approaching Nathaniel.
"Nate, I'm back! I'm sorry for making you worry. I didn't mean to leave without a word. I wanted to call, but there was no signal in the mountains," Kristen explained, her lips pouting and eyes pleading.
Nathaniel saw through her act.
He felt no sympathy. Instead, he thought she was becoming too unruly.
Nathaniel knew the attack on the fishing village was clearly orchestrated by someone, and he was already investigating.
He suspected someone had targeted him, knowing he was still connected to the village.
Such power plays were familiar to him.
If someone wanted to harm him, they would know about his connection to Kristen and not spare her.
Nathaniel felt the weight of a promise he had to keep and said coldly, "You knew it was dangerous and still went out on your own. Tommy, assign a few people to stay with Ms. Serrano and ensure her safety."
"Yes, Mr. Nicholls."
Kristen panicked immediately.
She still needed to meet with Declan's people.
"No, Nate, I promise I'll behave from now on. I won't cause any trouble," she vowed earnestly, but Nathaniel remained unmoved.
Desperate, Kristen used her trump card, grabbing Nathaniel's arm and gently shaking it.
"Nate, please, I know I was wrong. I won't run off again. Mavis came from a small town too, but she's familiar with the area, and you didn't have anyone watching her. It's so restrictive."
Mentioning Mavis only made Nathaniel's expression colder.
"Nate, is Mavis upset about leaving the company? How about I invite her for lunch sometime? She can keep an eye on me, and we can become close friends, like sisters."
Nathaniel glanced at her, said nothing, and walked upstairs without a word.
Tommy sighed.

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
