Faced with Nathaniel's questioning, Mavis found herself at a loss for words.
She decided to look Nathaniel directly in the eyes, wanting to appear more sincere.
"Yes, I wasn't with Emmett. The reason I didn't tell you the truth is that this child is the result of a one-night stand with someone whose identity I don't even know. After leaving you, I was angry and reckless. I found a random man and spent the night with him, which is how I ended up with this child. If you wouldn't give me what I wanted, naturally, someone else would. Nathaniel, do you really have to strip away my last layer of defense and force me to confront this harsh reality?"
Nathaniel's face paled as he listened.
He stared at Mavis' upset expression, falling into a long silence.
The baby was clearly conceived after they had parted ways, and he had personally seen Mavis take the birth control pills.
This child could be the result of any man's encounter with Mavis, but it could not possibly be his.
The realization felt like his heart was being crushed, making it hard to breathe.
His eyes reddened, and his gaze became intense as he looked at her.
His voice dropped to a somber tone as he mumbled, "Mavis, the marriage certificate is still at home. You're still my wife in name. How could you…"
"Be so shameless and promiscuous?" Mavis interrupted him and sneered. "We agreed to a one-year marriage contract. Who knew you wouldn't sign the divorce papers? Is it wrong for me to move on with my life?"
She patted her stomach, speaking with a detachment that made her seem heartless.
Nathaniel's brow furrowed in fury. "You're carrying the product of a one-night stand, and I'm left looking like a fool. Mavis, what do I even mean to you?"
His rage threatened to overwhelm his remaining sense of reason.
Without warning, he lunged at Mavis, pinning her down on the couch.
Mavis' face turned pale, and she struggled desperately.
The baby inside her also seemed to sense the distress and danger, kicking her stomach.
The pain made Mavis' entire face contort, and after a long moment, she managed to catch her breath and said, "Y-You're crushing me. It hurts…"
Nathaniel regained his composure and quickly let her go, helping her sit up.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you."
Still in pain, Mavis pushed him away.

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
