Mildred sighed and turned to leave the hallway.

"Stay here and keep an eye on Nathaniel. If anything seems off, let me know immediately."

"Understood, Madam Nicholls. Don't worry."

Inside the ward, Callum finished his bottle slowly.

Nathaniel carefully placed him in the center of the bed, raised the side rails for safety, and went to clean the bottle in the bathroom.

Since Mildred refused to help with the baby, Nathaniel had no choice but to figure things out on his own. He used his free moments to research how to care for a baby and change diapers.

Over the next few days, Nathaniel went from being clumsy to gradually getting the hang of it.

Life in the hospital was boring, but with a baby to take care of, it seemed like he never had enough time.

He watched over the crib even while sleeping and woke up in the middle of the night to feed Callum.

Even though it was tiring, he recovered surprisingly quickly from his illness.

On the day of discharge, Mildred finally got to hold her precious great-grandson again, reluctant to let him go.

Nathaniel remained quiet and showed no emotion as he packed up Callum's things and prepared to head home.

Mildred was losing sleep from missing Callum.

She saw Nathaniel's improvement and suggested, "Nate, you seem to have lost a bit of weight these past few days. Maybe I should take some of the burden off you. Let me take care of Callum."

Nathaniel firmly declined. "No, Grandma. You've already been through enough, and I don't want to burden you with him. I was reckless before."

Mildred was at a loss for words.

She would never think that taking care of Callum was a burden.

Nathaniel added, "Besides, you were right. I may not have been a good husband, but I can't afford to be a bad father as well. I'll take care of Callum. If I need help, I'll ask you."

Mildred said nothing but just stared at Nathaniel, feeling a little annoyed.
