Troy was caught off guard.
Had he been too obvious?
He shook his head, playing dumb.
"No, not at all. Mr. Nicholls is far too busy to arrange such a pointless task for me."
Mavis narrowed her eyes, clearly not buying it.
Troy realized he had probably given himself away.
"Mrs. Nicholls, please don't misunderstand. I was just speaking from the heart. After working with Mr. Nicholls for so long, I've seen how much he's done for Mr. Callum. I couldn't help but want to speak up for him."
Mavis remained unmoved by his words.
"I can't deny what he has done for Callum. Perhaps he's a good father, but he's not a good husband to me."
"Are you still hung up on what happened between Mr. Nicholls and Ms. Serrano?" Troy sighed. "I think you should hear his side of the story. Maybe things aren't as extreme as you think."
Troy was not there when Kristen joined the Nicholls Group, and he was unaware of the details.
Tommy probably knew more than he did.
Mavis lowered her gaze. "Do you really think someone like him would explain himself?"
Troy fell silent.
It was indeed unlikely.
Nathaniel never liked to talk about his actions, good or bad.
He would rather try to fix things, even if his solutions were sometimes misguided.
Mavis did not wait for Troy's answer.
She added, "It doesn't matter anymore. Even if Kristen weren't involved, there would be countless others like her."
No matter what she did, Nathaniel was not in love with her.
As they talked, they arrived at Nicholls residence.

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
