It had been almost two days since she had seen Callum, and she wondered if the little boy missed her too…
As Mavis sank into deep thought, Nathaniel quietly observed her expression.
He gently persuaded her, "I know you're worried Evan won't adjust to 24-hour care, but how long can you take care of him? A year? Two years? If his legs never heal, are you going to look after him for the rest of your life? You're not his wife or even his family. You're just work partners. This incident wasn't your fault. Are you really going to give up Callum and everything else to take responsibility for his unfortunate situation?"
Mavis lowered her long lashes, falling silent.
Seeing that she seemed to be listening intently, Nathaniel changed his approach.
"Actually, if you're concerned and want to go back to Evan's side, that's fine. But at least take a nap here first. Once you're rested, you can go back downstairs tonight."
Mavis hesitated, neither agreeing nor refusing outright. To be honest, she was tired, and her eyelids felt heavy. Between last night and this morning, she only slept about an hour.
"Hey! What are you—"
Not giving her a chance to refuse, Nathaniel scooped her up and gently placed her on the other half of his hospital bed.
"I'm still wearing my shoes!" Mavis protested, not wanting to dirty the white sheets.
Understanding her concern, Nathaniel took off her shoes and placed them under his side of the bed. Then, he helped her remove her jacket, laying it on the nightstand closest to him.
His movements were gentle, and his gaze sincere.
Mavis was in a daze, and she froze like a thoughtless doll, allowing him to do as he pleased. Only her beautiful blue eyes were wide open, staring at him in disbelief.
It was not until Nathaniel tucked her in and soothed her to sleep that she suddenly snapped back to reality.
She raised her hand to touch his face and asked, "Are you sure you're okay? Is your wound so seriously infected that it's affecting your mind?"

The readers' comments on the novel: Wait, She’s a Billionaire (Sheena Lawson)
The novel is too abusive it spoils the joy of reading it. I hate the punishment part between sheena and Eliot....
